This is not a hot take, itβs common sense. A large wedding is a party for a lot of people you invite out of obligation while being a waste of time and energy.
Unless you are financially well off spending tens or hundreds of thousands on a wedding is one of the worst financial decisions a young couple can make.
We could have paid for a large wedding quite easily. We didnβt. We got married in my parents backyard with 8 people there.
Whenever someone talks to me about getting married this is what I tell them. Take that money and do one of two things. Put it in an S&P 500 index fund or use it for a down payment on a house.
Donβt fall into the same trap as so many couples. Whatβs worse is that people actually go into debt for lavish weddings.
