In first grade it is so important to help students fall in love with reading! I love when silly books cause giggles and laughter. We definitely love reading in 1-O! It was wonderful to enjoy a fun book during our busy week that included a performance and a field trip! #D53learns
Today in 1-O we started our poetry unit in Writing. We decided the best way to write a poem about spring was to think about our 5 senses! It was a gorgeous day to discover the sounds, sights, and smells that spring has to offer. #D53learns
Students in 1-O worked incredibly hard on a top secret writing job this week! Their hands were very tired, but for many of my students it was by far the best handwriting I have seen all year! #D53learns
This week in 1-O students finalized, published, and shared their personal narratives! They have been working very hard on these for weeks and I am so proud of them! It was wonderful seeing my students be such respectful and supportive audience members! #D53learns
Today is such a beautiful day that we decided to go outside to write our weekly letters home. I loved watching my students try different spots until they found one that worked for them. The fresh air and sunshine was great for their brains and their bodies! #D53learns
In 1-O we have been talking about Earth Day and why it is important to take care of our planet everyday! I loved seeing how passionate my students were about this writing job. They had so many ideas to keep our planet healthy! #D53learns
Yesterday 1-O students made inspirational cards for our fourth grade testing buddies. My students were incredibly motivated to do their part in supporting older students as state testing approaches! They love that they get to be involved and help the "big kids". #D53learns
In 1-O we started our unit on Rules and Laws. I was amazed by my students' critical thinking and connections. They were able to tie in connections to Martin Luther King Jr. and we agreed that while rules and laws should be fair they are not always fair for everyone. #D53learns
My students continue to amaze me with their kindness and consideration! Today I shared that we are lucky because a new student is joining 1-O soon. My class cheered and asked if they could write her letters to welcome her to our room! I am so proud to be their teacher! #D53learns
In 1-O students have been working hard on their next book, which is a personal narrative! I looked back at the first books they wrote this year and I am amazed at the differences. They have grown so much and I am so proud of them! #D53learns
In 1-O today students wrote their weekly letters home to their parents. I was amazed by their collaboration! My students worked as a team to figure out what song they sang in Music and were able to respectfully disagree with each other in the process! #D53learns
Yesterday in 1-O we read the book Perfect. My students enjoyed it so much that they wanted to write letters to the author. The students were fully engaged and the quality of their work was phenomenal! They loved that I changed the lesson plans because of their passion! #D53learns
I had a wonderful day of learning at Anderson's Children's Literacy Breakfast this past weekend! It was amazing to hear from and have a chance to meet some incredible authors. I am so excited to share new books with my students! #D53learns
Today in 1-O math we started with a multi-step word problem. Students were given "struggle time" at first and it was wonderful to see the perseverance my students had when faced with a challenge. Then we worked together to solve the problem as a team! #D53learns
In 1-O we started our personal narrative unit in writing. The students are eager to begin writing their next book! Today students began generating ideas by writing about what they were like when they were 5 and what they are like now that they are 6 or 7. #D53learns
Today 1-O writers shared their published nonfiction books with their class! We worked on being brave even if we were nervous and being good audience members! They were so excited to share their books after weeks of hard work! #D53learns
In 1-O we are celebrating the 100th day of school! One way we celebrated was to see how many times we could say the alphabet in 100 seconds! The students' favorite though was to see how many times they could jump in 100 seconds! #D53learns
