The video shows a Kurdish child injured during the Turkish occupation’s shelling of the city of Serekaniye (Ras al-Ayn) with white phosphorus, a weapon prohibited under international law, in 2019.

The photo, meanwhile, shows a Kurdish Peshmerga fighter injured as a result of the Iranian government’s shelling of the city of Sulaymaniyah with white phosphorus, another weapon prohibited under international law.

On July 19th, Iran launched a white phosphorus attack on a Kurdish position near Erbil in Iraqi-Kurdistan, injuring nine, a Kurdish official tells me. The official added the attached photos from the strike.

White phosphorus is not categorically prohibited under international law, but its use is illegal in some circumstances. I’ve firsthand witnessed the excruciating burns and pain that it causes during my time in Armenia.

In the past several days, Iran has launched a punishing wave of strikes against Kurdish targets in northern Iraq. Months after signalling their readiness to enter the US-Israeli-led war, the Kurds continue to suffer casualties, with little ability to hit back.

تكشف الوقائع أن الدعم الغربي للسلطة السورية الحالية ليس دعماً لبناء دولة أو إنجاز انتقال سياسي، بل دعمٌ وظيفي تحكمه المصالح الأمنية والجيوسياسية، وهو ما تؤكده هشاشة الوضع الأمني، وغياب البيئة الجاذبة للاستثمار، واستمرار المؤشرات الدولية التي تنسف الرواية الرسمية عن الاستقرار.
وفي المقابل، تتهاوى سردية حماية التعددية وطمأنة المسيحيين أمام الشهادات الميدانية والتقارير الغربية التي ترصد واقعاً مختلفاً، ما يجعل كثيراً من المبادرات والوعود المعلنة أقرب إلى محاولات لاحتواء الضغوط السياسية والإعلامية منها إلى مؤشرات على تحول حقيقي في طبيعة الحكم.
وبهذا المعنى، يبقى مستقبل السلطة مرهوناً بقدرتها على أداء الدور الإقليمي المطلوب منها في ملفات لبنان وإيران وحزب الله، وسط صراع مصالح بين الولايات المتحدة وتركيا وفرنسا وإسرائيل، لا بقدرتها على بناء دولة ذات سيادة ومؤسسات مستقرة أو إنتاج شرعية سياسية حقيقية.

A protest was held in the city of Qamishli by the families of Kurdish prisoners and abductees, calling for the immediate release of all detainees and rejecting any bargaining over their fate.

The protesters stated that the Damascus government, with Turkish support, continues to delay resolving this issue and is using the Kurdish prisoners and their leaders as bargaining chips. They called for the immediate and unconditional release of all prisoners and abductees.

The Kurdish young man, Hassan Ahmed Barakat, who was from the village of Biandour affiliated with the town of Tirbespiyê in Qamishlo, was killed after being taken by the Public Security gang of the Damascus government, in the village of Dardara in the countryside of Tel Kocher.

He was arrested on Wednesday night from his home by a patrol of the Public Security under the pretext of investigation, and his body was found in the agricultural lands of the village of Dardara in the countryside of Tel Kocher.

Residents are urged to be careful and not enter areas under the control of the gangs of the Damascus government.
