एक लड़के के फर्जी एनकाउंटर के खिलाफ एक वर्ग पूरी उग्रता के साथ देश भर में रोष जता रहा है। गुस्सा जायज भी है।

लेकिन जब निहत्थे दाढ़ी-टोपी वाले को उड़ा दिया जाता है तो यही वर्ग चुटिया पकड़-पकड़कर नाचता है और बाबा की जय-जयकार करता है।

एक तानाशाह ने हर चीज पर कब्जा जमा रखा था. सारी मशीनरी उसके काबू में थी.

लेकिन उसे ये संदेश भी देना था कि देश में लोकतंत्र है, जनता की सुनी जाती है, उनका ख्याल रखा जाता है.

इसलिए तानाशाह ने खुद से अपने विरोधी नियुक्त किए, जो उसका विरोध करके लोगों को बताएं- देखो जनता की सुनी जाती है, देश में लोकतंत्र है.

तानाशाह अपने व‍िरोध‍ियों का अपने ही मीड‍िया से प्रचार भी करवाता, उन्हें खूब फुटेज द‍िलवाता.

वैसे तो तनाशाह क‍िसानों-मजदूरों को प्रदर्शन न करने देता, लेक‍िन अपने फ‍िक्‍स क‍िए हुए व‍िरोध‍ियों को तुरंत प्रदर्शन की अनुमत‍ि दे देता.

तानाशाह के इस एक मास्‍टरस्‍ट्रोक से जनता में भ्रम बना रहता कि देश में सब ठीक है, लोग प्रदर्शन कर पा रहे हैं, लोकतंत्र मजबूत है.

And that is the end of the corruption proceedings against him. No High Court or Supreme Court judge in India has ever been punished for corruption since independence.

If a judge faces allegations of corruption, the Supreme Court itself examines them and may then recommend impeachment by Parliament. If the judge resigns before impeachment, the matter is closed. Though technically an FIR can still be filed after resignation, governments do not do so. They never have.

So technically, Justice Varma walks free with pension, benefits, and title intact. Wishing honorable Justice Varma a pleasant and joyful post retirement life.
