Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan should be released from prison, President-elect Trump’s envoy for special missions, @RichardGrenell, said on Tuesday.

Grenell noted that Khan, like Trump, faced “a lot of the same allegations,” with the ruling party using corruption claims to imprison him. “He wants to run for office, and the people should decide,” Grenell added. Grenell highlighted the stronger U.S.-Pakistan relationship under the previous Trump administration, pointing out that Khan, a former cricket player and outsider like Trump, spoke in “very common sense language,” which helped foster a strong bond between the two leaders.
