Self-comforting is so important. you have to be able to hold and soothe yourself. Because in some moments you’re all you will have, but also knowing how to comfort yourself can show your loved ones how to offer comfort in meaningful ways
Don't solve temporary problems with permanent solutions. Like getting married to get out of your parents' home or quitting your job because your boss annoyed you.
Learn to sleep over things and breathe. Make a plan.
The outcome may well be the same but at least you'll do so on your own terms.
If you want to improve your business writing, read The Economist regularly for two years. Don't miss an issue.
You will become more logical and structured in your thinking, and you will regain the attention span that social media stole from you.
Your capacity to consume large quantities of information and to analyze that data will grow.
I recommend The Economist if you're training young Lawyers or Consultants.
If you're in the Tech or Creative space, in addition, I recommend Fast Company. For Finance, add Fortune Magazine.
Blogs are fine. But you need the discipline of reading very long articles. A magazine also has different sections. It forces you to read things you would ordinarily not be interested in; thereby broadening your knowledge base.
The thing is, if you cannot read seemingly boring things and prefer to only do things that feel good, your competence may be impacted.
Media is about wiring. You have no original thoughts. You just think you do. Everything you consume shapes you.
Social media, TV, music, books and gaming have turned you into this person that you are. They're not purely entertainment. They've moulded your thoughts, desires, ideologies and reasoning. You must rewire your brain by taking a break from what you're used to and consuming other things.
For a week, take a fast from the usual tech-based media you consume, and read a physical book instead. Go out to lunch with someone and leave your phone in your bag or car.
Assess the state of your emotions and thinking after a week. You may be surprised.
I’ve just heard the sad story of a young nigerian man here in uk who suddenly died last week June 6, 2024 of a cardiac arrest.
His name is Damola Ilesanmi.
He just graduated from the university of bradford very close to where I live. He was meant to start work with the uk national health service this week before he suddenly died.
He leaves behind a wife and two children.
Please kindly help donate towards his burial and supporting his young bereaved family in this trying time.
