Before he became a Florida basketball star, Walter Clayton Jr. was a highly touted football recruit 👀

Clayton was a 4🌟 dual-threat QB recruit in the class of 2021 and had offers from Notre Dame, Florida, Georgia, FSU, Tennessee, West Virginia, Nebraska, Cincinnati, and Southern Miss.

He was a more coveted football recruit than a basketball recruit, with basketball offers from just Elon, Jacksonville, FGCU, and Iona.

Clayton went on an unofficial visit to Florida in 2019 with Gervon Dexter Jr. (pictured above), who ended up playing football for the Gators and who was a 2nd round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

He considered transferring to IMG Academy for football while in high school, but ultimately decided that basketball was what he really wanted to play.

After playing at Iona for two years under Rick Pitino, Clayton transferred to Florida and led the Gators to an SEC tournament championship and a 1-seed in the NCAA tournament where they play Texas Tech tonight with a spot in the Final Four on the line.

We have received word that former Lakeland Dreadnaughts RB Steward Butler has passed away. Butler was a 4-star bluechipper that rushed for a school record 3K yards in 2010. He signed with the Marshall Thundering Herd where he rushed for over 2500 yards in 3 years. #RIPStu 🙏
