This scene is great, but I’d like to talk about the General here first a second.
The man doesn’t appear for very long in the film, but it’s amazing how much you can make a character stick out by giving them traits.
1) Make them competent.
2) Make them rational.
The man was going off all her knee at first and they were hitting The Giant with all they had, but when spoke to him and he saw that The Giant was actually pretty benevolent( he had the sense to pause and get further information. It would have been very easy to make him a blind blowhard who would have launched the nuke himself, but by making him rational, we not only get to see a superior officer actually act like one, but we get the following scene here as well.
I always say, competency creates the story, and that includes the characters as well.
I just got fired from Microsoft. I was the guy responsible for making sure that when you start typing your password in on the Windows lock screen, it ignores your first keystroke for no fucking reason
doing the "scrolling past lewd image in public but keeping the like button in view to tap it" tech, then failing the dexterity check and getting full blasted with half-naked anime women while on the bus
