Paying ₹3,600 a year just to receive a bank OTP, is this really a Mobile Service or an "OTP Tax"?

Today, a Mobile Number is required for almost everything important

Banking
UPI
KYC
Credit Cards
Insurance
Government Services
2FA / OTPs

If your SIM becomes inactive,
access to several essential financial and digital services can become difficult.

But if someone does not need Mobile Data, already has Wi Fi at home,
and uses the SIM only for OTPs, SMS and incoming calls,

why should they still have to pay for expensive bundled recharge plans ?

Imagine a family of 6

₹3,600 × 6 = ₹21,600 per year.

Just to keep their mobile numbers active.

If people already have Wi Fi at home,

why should not there be a ₹500/year basic plan that provides only essential services like incoming calls and OTP or SMS ?

Telecom companies have every right to make money by selling data
that’s fair.

But here’s the bigger question

In Digital India, should people really have to spend thousands of rupees
every year just to maintain access to essential services like Banking,
KYC and 2FA ?

If a Mobile Number has effectively become part of our Digital Identity,

should not there also be an affordable basic plan simply to keep the SIM active ?

Maybe it’s time for TRAI to seriously consider this.

This soft attitude is exactly why food safety in India is so bad.

Every food business and every big brand should live with one fear: If you fail basic hygiene standards and play with people's health, your licence can be suspended.

Expired meat, fish & milk found in Bengaluru’s top luxury hotels.

30 teams inspected 26 three-star & five-star hotels across BBMP limits today. 35 food samples collected for lab testing.

Hotels where food was seized:

• The Lalit Ashok – 76 kg meat, 200 kg vegetables & 32 litres expired milk

• Shangri-La Bengaluru – 15 kg meat

• Four Seasons Bengaluru – 19 kg meat

• Vivanta Whitefield – 3 kg expired bakery products

• Taj Yeshwantpur – 72 kg meat/fish

• Radisson Blu (The Atria) – 105 kg expired food (50 kg chicken, 25 kg meat, 23 kg fish, 7 kg vegetables)

Violations included expired food, fungal growth, unhygienic kitchens, misbranding, FSSAI labelling violations and improper veg/non-veg storage. Notices issued; further action to follow after lab reports. #Bengaluru #FoodSafety

Bengaluru Development Minister @krishnabgowda said city's LED street lighting project can achieve 61% electricity savings once fully implemented.

Reviewing the project, he said only 2.67 lakh of 3.03 lakh LED lights & 7,567 of 24,677 CCMS panels have been installed, and granted a final two-month extension from August 3 to complete the work.

He directed contractors to fix faulty streetlights within 48 hours or face penalties & pulled up officials for attending review meeting without basic data on project progress/ expected power savings.
