I don’t think of Biden as a great speaker. But that was a masterclass moment in responding to the crowd.

Ok, so that was a pretty awesome thing to see in the #SOTU2023.

Biden managed to turn a moment where half the crowd was booing into a moment of unanimous standing ovation, OFF THE CUFF, in a way that was relatively gracious toward republicans in the room.

Tuned into the Jan 6 committee hearings briefly for the first time today, my thoughts turned to how we always complain about politicians not caring enough about the people.

Talk about a moment where the roles are reversed! The apathy about that day is pretty striking.

@CubeApril On the other hand, if you take literally all factors into account (the die, the conditions, the person's rolling technique, all other intervening factors) then you can view the die roll as predetermined too.

(i.e, there's no randomness possible ever. A philosophical question).

@LJSweetpea @jbuttsthird I had a similar experience with my grandfather’s FB account. Wasn’t able to recover it, in the end—but in the intervening years, our extended family celebrated many posthumous birthdays and anniversaries online with him.

What helps you to cherish loved ones = probably good.

This is about risk management, not 100% certainty.

@porcelain72 @IWriteAllDay_ I mean, that numbness is kind of a *perfect example* of a response to trauma. Violence becoming the norm instead of an aberration is exactly what makes the whole system so messed up, because desensitization makes soldiers, not de-escalators!
