Next stop: India 🇮🇳
This week, I’m leading Canada’s largest trade delegation to India in more than 30 years.
India is home to more than 1.4 billion people and is one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies, making it a significant opportunity for Canadian businesses to reach new customers.
300 business delegates are joining me on this trade mission to India to build new partnerships in aerospace, clean energy, technology, life sciences, agri-food and forestry.
We’re also advancing negotiations on a Canada-India CEPA trade agreement, with the goal of opening more opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses.
I'm incredibly excited and deeply depressed:
Pretty much all the leading Chinese AI and robotics companies will be at @WebSummit in Lisbon next month.
The future of tech appears increasingly Chinese.
Western innovation is still happening, but it's slower and far more expensive than what's broadly happening in China.
Web Summit has always tried to be a window into the future of tech. That future for many years was Western, mostly American, with a light sprinkling of European innovation.
It now pains me to see how increasingly irrelevant Europe and the United States are. I feel like almost everyone is in total denial.
Too many western startups and investors have retreated to the safety of their own podcasts, agitated by journalists who "just don't get it" with pesky questions.
US robotics startups produce Hollywood level launch videos, but then years later they still can't produce an actual working robot.
Like WTF is going on!
In the West, Tech used to be about tech. But now it's about narrative.
Which, in the west, amounts to telling increasingly bullshit stories in the hope no notices you're mostly full of shit. And in reality some Chinese startups, with almost no funding, are eating your dinner.
Am I wrong? Like what exactly is going on. I just feel the west is in some weird Soviet-era denial that we're being surpassed by a new system. And we have no answers, no solutions...
someone told me today, there are 3 types of people in Vancouver:
1. those who lineup all day (or overnight) for Aritzia warehouse sale
2. those who can afford Aritzia off the shelf
3. ones who don't care either way!
2 months. One deal. More opportunities in a regional $5.5 trillion market.
Canada and the UAE have concluded a free trade agreement in record time. Lower tariffs for Canadian exporters. New opportunities for our farmers, engineers, financial, tech companies and mining sector.
To my friend Dr. Thani and both our teams: thank you for moving fast and getting this done.
This is trade diversification in action.
2 mois.
Two months ago, we started negotiating a new free trade agreement with the UAE.
Today, we concluded those negotiations. That means lower tariffs, new opportunities for Canadian workers, and better access to the UAE’s $700 billion economy for Canadian businesses.
It was an honour to present at the #UEF4 today. The session I was a part of (Role of Private Capital & Economic Prosperity) had incredible speakers & I learned a lot!
