In the days of a land of gentry, or when plutocrats were expected to sell their companies and become members of such a gentry, they couldn’t just leave the ill effects of their policies or the ill effects in those policies they let occur

Their wealth, their position, and the wealth in position of their descendants was tied up in a specific place, but they cannot easily leave. If they ruined it, or refused to participate well in the political process and allowed it to be ruined, then they would lose everything. They thus got involved in training themselves to lead and rule well and did so, in those small part so that they’re wealth, estates, topping position atop the Society ladder would remain intact.

Now, we just have plutocrats with financialized wealth, and it’s easy for them to decamp from one jurisdiction to the next. They have no incentive to participate well in government, no incentive to keep them tied to a specific place and its people, no incentive to learn how to rule well. They can just be blithering idiots for their whole lives and respect other than the accumulation of money and then leave when which they have supported ruins the place where they began.

That is a huge issue. We should not really allow assets to be transferred from one jurisdiction to the next. At the very least, businesses should have to stay, and preferably the people in charge of them should have to stay. If they want better policies, they should participate in the political process to make those better policies.

Such as what the land of gentry had to do and is why it ruled so well for centuries. Our technic elite has managed to ruin one of the greatest states of the nation in mere decades.
