You're right Piers, you are confused. First, yes, Pretty was legally carrying a weapon and exercising his 2nd amendment right to do so. Second, yes this was a bad shoot by the CBP, based on what we know now. Third, NO, the protesters should not start brandishing weapons AT law enforcement while they are attempting to pursue illegals and detain them.

The second amendment says we have a right to bear arms. It doesn't say you can use them against law enforcement without consequences.

I'm not saying Pretti did, as by all accounts/video evidence, it appears he was disarmed prior to the first shot, which is a huge problem. And the CBP shouldn't have shot him.

But claiming that this incident should somehow indicate to other obstructionists that it's a good idea to draw down on law enforcement, is a bad idea. Yes, it's legal to bear arms for self defense, but it's also legal for law enforcement to USE their arms to defend themselves if you try and shoot them.
