@dwmal1 Yes turns out it was a sick disk. (During an upgrade). Luckily one of the kernels was semi bootable and a quick fsck did the trick. The rest of the upgrade went mostly to plan most programs are working and the Bluetooth bug (which was why I was upgrading) even worked itself out!

Preprints are great... in theory. They get science out fast and without paywalls. But what good is a free archive of all scientific knowledge without journals to tell you which papers are worth your time, and without impact factors to tell you who to hire?
