Due to unforeseen circumstances, as Limestone University announced its closure, I have entered the transfer portal (with 4 years of eligibility). It has been a privilege and blessing to play for @Harker31 and @_MattPadgett . Please feel free to reach out to me. 561-891-0021
I signed to UCLA my junior year of high school and was told I was going to start Day 1.
Opening Day at UCLA?
I was sitting the bench. 😭
I had 2 choices:
1. Complain, pout, and blame the coaches
OR
2. Find the holes on the team and become valuable.
So for 3 weeks, I sat the bench.
I showed up early.
Stayed late.
Cheered for my teammates.
Dragged the field every 3rd inning.
Meanwhile, I studied the team.
The middle infielders were doing well.
Third base wasn’t.
So I told the coaches:
“I can play third.”
Then I noticed something else:
Offensively, we were either hitting home runs or getting out.
I saw the gap.
If I could become a tough out, get on base, and bring energy to the team…
I could create value.
Then we played Miami.
The starting third baseman was hitting .115.
They gave me a shot.
I went 2 for 3 with a walk.
Played solid defense.
Brought energy.
I never sat the bench again.
Eventually, I became team captain…
and we were ranked #1 in the country.
One thing baseball taught me:
Opportunities don’t always go to the most talented player.
Sometimes they go to the player who becomes the most valuable.

I’ve been a cop for 15 years. I pulled a guy over last night. He was doing 85 in a 55. Weaving. I walked up to the window ready to write a reckless driving ticket. Maybe even take him in. When he rolled down the window, he wasn't drunk. He was shaking. "My daughter," he gasped. "She's at Children's Hospital. The chemo isn't working. They called... they said I need to hurry." I looked at his eyes. You can’t fake that kind of terror. I folded my ticket book. "Follow me," I said. I got back in my cruiser, flipped on the lights and sirens, and I escorted him the 20 miles to the hospital. I cleared every intersection for him. We made a 30-minute trip in 15. He ran inside without looking back. I waited in the parking lot for an hour. Just in case. He came out later, saw me, and walked over. He looked hollowed out. "Did I make it?" I asked. "Yeah," he whispered. "I got to hold her hand while she went. You got me there." He tried to shake my hand, but he collapsed into my arms instead. Sometimes, to serve and protect means breaking the speed limit.

@SeacoastChurch main campus reached out and asked if I’d be willing to share my story to be shown during a sermon across our campuses. It wasn’t easy, I spoke about parts of my past that are often easier to leave behind. But in the end, God’s grace and mercy in our lives shine through in this film. My hope is that our story encourages anyone walking through unexpected challenges to keep trusting that God is still at work.
Life Update:
God is good, always.
When my coaching journey took another unexpected turn at Limestone University, Tiff and I felt a peace that’s hard to explain, but we knew it was a God thing. Even in the mess, we trusted He had a plan. I told several people we weren’t going to live like victims or carry an orphan mindset. Our Heavenly Father is the King of kings, and we knew He was writing a bigger story.
For about a month I met with business leaders and baseball connections over breakfast and lunch, seeking clarity and praying for God to open the right doors, and close the wrong ones. Honestly, I could write a short book on how clearly and quickly He did just that.
And when the dust settled, God showed up in a big way, again.
I accepted a position as VP of Development at Anchor Bat Company, based in Greenville, SC. The owner, Matt Rollins, has been a dear friend for over 20 years, and the timing of this opportunity was undeniably a God thing. With new investors, including Braves legend Dale Murphy, we’ve moved into an incredible space that’s positioning Anchor to reach a whole new level.
Our family has already had some amazing adventures like attending MLB All-Star Weekend, where I had the opportunity to represent Anchor in the Braves clubhouse during the MLB Futures Game.
It’s been such a fun transition. Only God could find a way to keep me close to the game I love, doing what I’m passionate about, and keep us right here in Greenville.
As for coaching, I’m not stepping away, I’m just shifting focus for this season to spend more time coaching my own son. And that’s a blessing I don’t take for granted.
Life’s an adventure when you let God write the story.
