Defending Human Sovereignty: Why Will Beats Intelligence in the Age of AGI
A Review of: Homo INTENTIO Will vs. Machine Mind: Sovereign in the AGI Era BY Joon-Jeong Yi, Ph.D.
Since ChatGPT burst onto the scene, humanity has lived in a strange limbo of awe and existential dread. The question "Will AI take my job?" is now quaint—a relic of early-stage AI awareness. Today, we confront a far more alarming query: What remains of human identity when Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) surpasses us, and how do we maintain our sovereignty? Dr. Joon-Jeong Yi, a noted futurist and engineer, tackles this defining challenge of our century in his profound new book, Homo INTENTIO Will vs. Machine Mind: Sovereign in the AGI Era.
From Sapiens to Intentio: A Necessary Evolutionary Shift
Dr. Yi boldly proclaims the expiration of our traditional self-definition: Homo Sapiens, the "wise human." In the AGI era, clinging to "wisdom" or "intelligence" as our defining trait is a losing strategy. Calculation, logic, and massive data processing—the traditional metrics of intelligence—are now the machine's domain, and the gap between us is widening exponentially.
Here, Yi offers a brilliant conceptual pivot. The final line of defense between man and machine is not intelligence—it is Will. He introduces Homo INTENTIO, the "intending human." The book argues that AI, regardless of its computational brilliance, remains devoid of desire. It cannot set its own goals. It is a highly efficient "How" intelligence—the ultimate bow and arrow. Humans, however, are unique in our capacity to ask "Why," to desire outcomes, and to forge subjective meaning. We are the archers who must choose the target.
The Battle for the Future’s Steering Wheel
The book’s subtitle, Will vs. Machine Mind: Sovereign in the AGI Era, perfectly encapsulates the conflict. Dr. Yi warns that sovereignty—our fundamental right to self-governance—is lost not to a violent robot uprising, but to a seductive surrender of agency to algorithmic convenience.
If we allow the Machine Mind to dictate our objectives under the guise of optimization, we cease to be the masters of our tools and become unwitting subjects of their calculations. To remain sovereign, we must cultivate our distinct human faculties: intuition, ethical judgment, and, crucially, the primordial energy of wanting and intending.
A Fusion of Engineering Rigor and Philosophical Insight
Homo INTENTIO stands apart from typical futurology by fusing rigorous engineering logic with profound existential philosophy. Dr. Yi doesn't merely list technological trends or indulge in utopian hyperbole. He dissects the very essence of technology while diving deep into what it means to be.
As an English edition, this work provides a refreshing and necessary alternative perspective to the prevailing Silicon Valley discourse. It offers a new conceptual framework centered on human intent as the ultimate governing principle of technology. The prose is elegant, authoritative, and intellectually stimulating, demanding attention from both tech aficionados and students of philosophy.
Conclusion: A Manifesto of Sovereignty
Ultimately, Joon-Jeong Yi has penned less of a traditional book and more of a Manifesto of Human Sovereignty. He invites us not to succumb to dread, but to rediscover the powerful force residing within us: the will.
In a world where machines can provide all the answers, Yi argues that the ultimate skill is asking the right questions. In an era where machines can do everything, our survival depends on knowing what we want to do. Homo INTENTIO leaves the reader with a profound sense of responsibility, but also of hope, reminding us of the unique and sacred privilege of intending our own future. It is essential reading for anyone navigating the currents of the AGI era.
機械(AI): How(どのように効率的に達成するか)の天才
人間(Homo Intentio): Why(なぜ、何のためにそれをするのか)を決める主権者
Human Centric leadership:
In a world where machines provide the answers, we shall remain the final species that poses the questions.

Humans are now in the Fourth Epoch, with our technology already producing results that exceed what we can understand for some tasks. For the aspects of the Turing test that AI has not yet mastered, we are making rapid and accelerating progress. Passing the Turing test, which I have been anticipating for 2029, will bring us to the Fifth Epoch. A key capability in the 2030s will be to connect the upper ranges of our neocortices to the cloud, which will directly extend our thinking. In this way, rather than AI being a competitor, it will become an extension of ourselves. By the time this happens, the nonbiological portions of our minds will provide thousands of times more cognitive capacity than the biological parts. As this progresses exponentially, we will extend our minds many millions-fold by 2045. It is this incomprehensible speed and magnitude of transformation that will enable us to borrow the singularity metaphor from physics to describe our future.
