@nofiltersnick@elonmusk Sad people don't even understand the scale of FAA. Probably think its like 150 people in a building in DC. The FAA has 45k employees. Working on ATC has nothing to do with spacex.
From the camera to take care of business. While we wait for regulation to count fish, we can find other ways to serve the industry that has been so good to us. Get in contact if you want to be part of this. Detections like this should be widely available. #EM4Fishers
In the telework world it is easy to get sidetracked and not realize your robbing billions from the economy in wasted time. This app allows you time to deal with telework realities, like children needing parents thought the day, while still ensuring productivity quotas are met. YW
Tinder, Reddit, Instagram: when these apps are open the countdown stops. Get in your car to drive somewhere? Unless approved by employer, that doesn't count. Approved? App tracks your mileage automatically and submits for reimbursement.
I intend to do more in the community, helping with other people's projects, and finding new perspectives on my projects. A role model's words play over in my mind over and over: we all rise together.
The west side of O‘ahu. This is a place of great community. Tight community. I am excited to start the next chapter that builds on what I've been learning over the past year and especially the last month. It was me against the world until purple prize cracked the door.
@timonroad The hardware has caught up as well in functionality and price. for something real simple with 1 cam you could get on a raspberry pi or a Jetson pretty cheap (sub 1000usd). But the systems from the likes of @saltwater_inc and @snapinfotech can do it too. It's very tangible now.
@timonroad Video transmission isn't necessary. AI is here and works at least counting for tuna. Transshipment would be pretty easy to train for IUU boats, and you're still counting as strings come across. Put the AI infrastructure on the big boats and have them send summary text reports
@kwing Additionally, I only have one albacore in my entire training set. So when it gets to an albacore it just isn't quite sure what to call it. It's only about 30% sure on the marlin ID too, but I have it set to show me every confidence level right now.
@kwing I spent the day expanding all my annotations of billfish to include the bill. initially thought it was a good idea to exclude it. I had a pretty good amount of your albacore come back as Marlin. When you just look at the head and body of a marlin, it does look like albacore...
This was the before picture, the buoy clean the boat next door looks in focus, I would call this image good quality until this trip came back and you couldn't see detail. Can't wait to start replacing cameras with the auto focus cameras.
@lgerbrett @EM4Fish@SeafoodEmerTech @ICES_ASC Moon doors are the coolest thing ever. I can't figure out if a marine mammal would ever show up in one though. Unless it was heavily entangled. Good thing orcas never get stuck on groundfish hooks, and no one would ever put a moon door on a tuna long line boat.
@kwing Also setting our cameras to not include the boat in the frame. I'm just going to avoid everything I've ever heard cited as a reason I can't release data. Initial release forms from participants, no identifying structures, no locations. I'm a professional at knowing what to not do
@FishPhilEh @lgerbrett @kwing@EM4Fish@ColbyBrady Would be helpful for everyone if a system could find things like this juvenile STAL I found a few years ago near the boat, and notify the vessel that this is in the area. Boats could be extra vigilant for birds measures then. Also notify NOAA for tracking.
@FishPhilEh @lgerbrett @kwing@EM4Fish We will be, we received cooperative grant funds to stick cameras on the boat specifically for birds. @ColbyBrady will figure out how best to tackle training. We think it's worth while.
@Efeller123 @NFWFnews@saltwater_inc It'll be on a boat in the Hawaii fleet that just came in for shipyard. This is will be the first industry owned system down here, and it should start working for the owner when the boat goes back out within a month. I'm giving this one away for free out of my own pocket.
