Our bean seeds are germinating! 🌱 🫘 We noticed many changes over the last few days - seeds cracking open, roots growing, shoots popping out and even seedlings/stems starting to grow! We have been documenting our observations through words and diagrams in our Plant Journal.

We are learning how to use PebbleGo to collect and record information for our Animal research reports!

We have been learning about nonfiction text features 📚 We are preparing to begin our very first research task by reading and collecting information from nonfiction texts on Epic. Today we are learning how to use a glossary!

We are applying our knowledge of materials & structures to design and build a shelter for our classroom stuffy, Digger the Dog! 🐶 🏠 We agreed that the shelter must have a roof, walls, floor, a comfortable area for Digger to sleep & a water resistant exterior!

We are learning about Area! We created area robots and calculated the area by counting and adding the square units in our robot’s body 🤖

Our Monster Invention descriptive pieces are proudly on display outside of room 211! This is the first writing piece where we followed the four stages of the writing process: Brainstorm, Rough Draft, Edit/Improve & Publish Good Copy✍️ We are becoming stronger writers every day!

We are investigating area! Ms. Calderone is baking cupcakes 🧁 She has 2 different shaped trays - a rectangle and square. She wants to use the tray that will hold the greater number of cupcakes. Which one should she choose? Hmm 🤔📏

We have been learning about the harmful effects of single use plastics to our environment. We read “No More Plastic” by Alma Fullerton and were inspired to take action & create change! We decided to clean up our school playground and filled FIVE bags of waste! #EarthProtectors

We were so excited to share our completed Monster Inventions during our very first Author’s Chair! 🎤 It lifts us up when we hear positive feedback from our friends. We put a lot of effort into these creative pieces and we are very proud of ourselves! 🌟

Building challenge 🛠️ - Build a boat or raft to support Digger the Dog for 30 seconds! We applied our knowledge of buoyancy and absorbency in our designs.

In Science, we are exploring the properties of materials! We learned that some materials float and others sink. We also discussed that objects are purposely made from materials that float or sink - like life jackets and boat anchors ⚓️
