The Facebook Files, a WSJ investigation, that dropped last week just got on my radar. I think it will be of interest to this group. https://t.co/ugTSWo1r8h
@21540_Emma@21540_Leslie The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel is another Netflix true crime doc that’s involves some very passionate social media sleuthing.
@21540_marion The consolidated re-brand (all serviced by Brand Institute) and coordinated roll-out of these three competitive products is... um, extraordinary. Excuse me while I educate myself--if there's a shortcut let me know!
@21540_Becky Time has been very kind to graffiti. https://t.co/jrzJg0FO1T
It doesn't seem controversial to say knowledge will inform taste/appreciation, but assigning a relative high/low value to one cultural artifact over another is sticky. (If that makes any sense🤷♀️)
@21540_Becky Expertise on the other hand is a measurable condition. The death of it and of “principled, informed arguments” described in the preface you linked is a genuine, not to mention v. topical, concern.
@21540_Becky I'll confess to some hypocritical (maybe a little tongue-in-cheek) opinions on art, but intellectuall. the Bourdieusian POV that taste is neither objectively high/low but in service of a social function to legitimize class difference is persuasive. (1/2)
Happy weekend PCOM540. Dean (ref. Zizek) presumes that the eyes of the public are wide open as it plays "into the hands of advertisers” on SM yet play it does. Do you think the public is aware of the extent they’re being played? What might account for this cognitive dissonance?
