Ayyyy. We are finally departing!! We got some friends with us this time. We have the princess, some 600 courtiers and sailors, and the Polos boarded 14 ships with us. This is going well.
We made a deal. Mongol princess was to be sent to Persia to become the consort of Arghun Khan, and we are offered to accompany her. For that, Mr.Khan would let us go back to our country and rest. Can't wait to go back!
Hey guys. It's 1292 and we have been here for more than 15 years. We really wanted to go back to Venice and get our knowledge back to Europe. I would tell Mr.Khan to let us leave Mongol now.
Marco is trying to write that he governed the city of Yangzhou for three years between 1282 and 1287 in his book, Il Milione. I tried to stop him, but as you expected, he won't stop. For you guys seeing my tweets in the future, DO NOT TRUST THAT PART. HE DIDN'T GOVERN THE CITY.
Apart from the two missions Marco undertook for the emperor, Polo held other administrative responsibilities, including inspection of the customs duties and revenues collected from the trade-in salt and other commodities. He seems tired but you know. That's his job.
Unlike me and Maffeo, Marco knew little or no Chinese, but he speaks some of the many languages then used in East Asia like Turkish. He was noticed very favourably by Kublai, who repeatedly sent Marco on fact-finding missions to distant parts of the empire.
Hey guys. Good news today. I got employed here! Since the Mongol leaders doesn't trust their Chinese subjects, many foreigners were employed as a worker. Just what I did. My brother, Maffeo was employed with me in a technology capacity.
It is 1275 and we are again at the Mongol court. We present the sacred oil from Jerusalem and the papal letters to our patron, Kublai Khan. I'm so glad to finally see him.
We are yet to reach Shazhou. Currently, we are traveling among Muslim people. We also encountered Nestorian Christians, Buddhists, Manichaeans, and Zoroastrians. It's good to see different people!
We are following along the oases to the south and east of the Takla Makan Desert, Hotan, Che’erchen, and Lop Nur. These stepping-stones would lead us to Shazhou on the border of China.
Time to leave Badakhshan.🥲🥲 I would miss the people I met there. We proceeded towards the Pamirs. Our route remains uncertain but we would descend on the northeastern side of the chain.
It has been a year since my crew came here in Badakhshan. Sorry for not posting anything. While staying here in Badakhshan, we didn't just stay here and hang out all the time. We were visiting territories to the south like Kafiristan, Chitral, and Kashmir.
Marco suggested me and Maffeo to stay here for a year. He said we could be detained, perhaps, by illness that was cured by the benign climate of the district. I don't know what that disease is called but I heard that it is usually get infected by a mosquito. Any ideas...?
Here we are in Badakhshān! We see other travelers and some green color on the ground! Seriously, walking in a desert is not a thing I recommend. Especially when you're on a camel.
