I definitely have different views on capital punishment than a lot of “left of center” people. Not getting into the whole labels thing rn lol but j like I must admit I’m not exactly anti Code of Hammurabi In the eye for an eye way. I get Mesopotamian with it.

Im any case I just find absolutism on this subject easy to take in a vacuum. I do think want to take a life in response to a crime says something about dark about human nature. Especially when given said power to the state. Living in a society though..

And I also believe there’s obv arguments to be had about the mechanisms in which capital punishment is administered. The state having the power to kill matters symbolically and no killing is … say humane or aesthetic. But it needs to be EFFICIENT

But on the other side I truly believe that rehabilitation programs and reeducation should be encouraged and reformed in the current prison systems. And withcapital punishment legal, the system has put countless people to death who should have seen rehabilitation.

Largely I believe death is often too good for people such as serial rapists. Child molesters and the like. I do not believe they could ever in good faith reenter society. So why should our taxes keep them alive… even if I wish them to rot.
