'I’m truly bowled over by the outpouring of support and affection since revealing my dementia diagnosis.
'Receiving a dementia diagnosis can turn your world upside down, but I really do believe it’s better to know.
'Too many people are experiencing delays in diagnosis - on average 3.5 years - meaning they’re left in limbo without the help they need.
'An early diagnosis can open the door to treatment, support, care and the chance to take part in research that could change the future.
'People living with dementia and their families have waited long enough for change. We must demand better for everyone affected.
'I would urge everyone to join me in signing Alzheimer’s Society’s open letter calling on government to deliver a bold and ambitious plan for dementia.’

I'm going to be in the UK for six weeks starting this Wed. Mostly London-based but planning to travel around the country visiting research groups working on self-driving labs and other AI+science.
Hit me up if you want to meet up!
On the Elizabeth Line to work and - for the first time I can remember - every single passenger around me has headphones in or has their phone on silent. Most blissful commute ever. There’s hope for the future again…
Fabulous. I’ve told my kids I want David Bowie’s space oddity played with words (all my kids know them I forced played it to them as toddlers!) so every one can stand & play air guitar 🎸… at the right time! 🤣
Dear @Keir_Starmer, you said to big tech: 'If you profit from harm & abuse, you lose the right to self-regulate' - yet you've done almost nothing to tackle scam ads?
An Open Letter to the PM from @MoneySavingExp & @WhichUK highlighting Govt's repeated, ongoing, flaccid treatment of scam ads
@Victoria_Spratt@theipaper@Ipsos_in_the_UK There is significant anger amongst leaseholders who feel betrayed at the glacial pace of reform - while we are being dragged through court and forfeiture by freeholders, the government tells us we were unrealistic to believe they would fulfil their manifesto pledge to end LH.
I’ve heard this too & been told people often can’t book past 12 weeks anyway which many want to for work/family commitments… it’s easy to profess reduced lists, if lists are deliberated manipulated. A friend of mine has had a hernia op rescheduled 3x so far, 👇🏼
This beautiful remastered footage was captured by an off duty policeman on 8th May 1945 after Churchill officially declared Victory in Europe. Flags are strung between terraces during the street celebrations in Gateshead. 🇬🇧 #VEDay
The Queen celebrated her Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
Prince Charles managed to persuade The Queen to make one last balcony appearance, despite her needing a wheelchair most of the time at this point.
At last there’s more chatter on here about the damage done by failed leasehold reform, post Grenfell ineptitude, Stamp Duty & development taxes & our hopeless planning system, but please tag @SteveReedMP ‘cos unless government understands how bad things are nothing will change.
Westminster has a Big Money problem.
@HarryScoffin told Parliament that No 10 and the Treasury have been captured by lobbyists — which is why @UKLabour has broken a manifesto promise to leaseholders, dropping @Law_Commission reforms from the new law.
Watch the MPs’ reaction 👇
Leasehold has been the litmus test for Labour and they have failed, and anger from leaseholders is palpable after so many MPs raised hopes that they would act decisively for us. What did get instead? Ground rent for decades to come and "leasehold is complicated" !!
A landlord collects £1,200/month rent
Pays £1,000/month mortgage interest
= Real profit: £200/month.
But HMRC doesn't see it that way.
Section 24 means higher-rate taxpayers can only claim 20% of mortgage interest as a tax credit, not the full deduction.
So they're taxed at 40% on £1,200, then get 20% credit on £1,000 back.
Tax bill: £3,360/year on a rental "profit" of £2,400.
They're paying more in tax than they actually make.
This is why so many landlords are incorporating or selling up.
