People only recoil at the idea of Christ saving us *from God* because their ultimate assumption is that they're the good guysโso they take "We're saved from God's wrath" as a statement that God is the bad guy. It never occurs to sinners that God opposing them means they're bad.
@juicycockfart@userbambi@pinkisttt because of their God-given conscience though the world is pretty sick so people definitely aren't following it like they should.
@juicycockfart@userbambi@pinkisttt again that means different things to different people therefore it isn't objective. if that's the standard it takes one person liking murder to make murder not objectively wrong.
@juicycockfart@userbambi@pinkisttt that doesn't tell someone why they should though. people can just ignore the golden rule. now what? if someone is indifferent to someone getting kidnapped and doesn't help are they now bad? is there evil?
@juicycockfart@userbambi@pinkisttt so be good merely in hopes that people are good back? who defines good? should you be "good" even if it costs you something? is there an actual moral obligation or is it just for your own benefit?
@juicycockfart@userbambi@pinkisttt bro that doesn't say WHY we should be good. just because you wouldn't want it done to you doesn't mean you have an obligation to not do it to someone else. at least in your worldview. i'm talking about a moral responsibility.
@juicycockfart@userbambi@pinkisttt no that doesn't tell you why you should be good lol. someone can just have the attitude that they wouldn't want to be murdered but are still going to murder someone. also take rape for example. what if some freak would like that? is rape now fine for them to do?
@juicycockfart@userbambi@pinkisttt i'm giving you my worldview. i'm assuming your worldview doesn't account for objective morality and you already said rights are from the government so this is going nowhere. the golden rule doesn't tell you why you should be good or what good is.
@juicycockfart@userbambi@pinkisttt I'd say because they're made in the image of God and that applies to humans at all stages of development. your worldview doesn't give you inherent rights therefore you can have them stripped away and be treated the same way you're fine with babies in the womb being treated.
@juicycockfart@userbambi@pinkisttt the golden rule is a good principal but doesn't say why or if we ought to act morally. if we have an obligation to. also people's definition of that will vary. whose opinion wins? is morality objective? if you don't see humans as inherently valuable this is going nowhere.
@juicycockfart@userbambi@pinkisttt you just said they're not inherent and can be taken away. i'm arguing that humans have inherent rights. assuming you're sane you definitely believe that too.
@juicycockfart@userbambi@pinkisttt because your worldview doesn't even grant that those rights exist therefore this whole conversation is pointless. you were making a joke about my religious worldview while also arguing like a religious person.
@juicycockfart@userbambi@pinkisttt which was my point. i believe humans have inherent rights that exist whether the government recognizes them or not. i'm sure deep down you do too.
