Eclectic mix of interests, but too lazy to mange multiple accounts. Will chat about atheism, philosophy, MTG, scale models & kayaking.
Be kind to one another.
@ApoloJedi_ Which is how we know it's mythology. Because every shred of empirical evidence demonstrates unequivocally that the universe is not 6000 years old, nor was the Earth created in 6 literal days.
@lukeappleton The notion that, without the divine morality can't exist is infantile. There are plenty of secular moral frameworks. Read some introductory moral philosophy. You may not like or agree with them, but that doesn't mean they're not real.
@lukeappleton "I" won't spend eternity anywhere. When I die the entity that we label as me will cease to exist.
Eventually the atoms and energy that make up me will be recycled into other things.
From there? Whatever the fate of the entire universe will be.
@lukeappleton It's clearly not pagan, since I'm an atheist.
I also didn't "choose" to believe it. I was convinced it's true.
And I find it not depressing in the slightest. Quite the opposite. Knowing that the atoms which form my body were forged in the heart of a dying star is transcendent.
@Tsar_Martyr Kind of? Depends on what we're talking about.
If atheism is referring to a state of belief, then no not really.
If it's referring to a factual state of reality (i.e. no God or gods exist), then yes.
