Silver and Gold both took a hit today following the de-escalation in the Iran-US situation, after Iran's Foreign Minister stated: "the path for a deal has started." alongside other promising developments from the talks.

Metals act as a safe haven, and when uncertainty fades, they tend to sell off. With Chinese markets also closed for the New Year, the usual demand from that session is notably lower until they reopen, adding further pressure to metals.

A few days ago, we presented two trades on our server: short silver and the pair trade of short silver/long gold (hedged position), and shared part of the thesis publicly on X.

Markets & macro watchlist this week (Feb 16-20, 2026):

1. US markets closed today for Washington's Birthday, this means lower volume, potentially muted volatility with no US open. 

2. US-Iran nuclear talks resume tomorrow in Geneva. Outcome could signal risk of renewed strikes (short-term bearish if it escalates).

3. The Supreme Court justices are scheduled to release opinions on February 20, 24, and 25; some may address Trump’s tariffs, which could affect markets. Better to rip the band-aid off soon; whatever the ruling, it will be better for market clarity.

4. Chinese New Year underway (Feb 17 start, ~8-day holiday halt in China markets) one factor behind our silver short. Watching liquidity impacts closely.

5. US Q4 GDP advance estimate out Feb 20. No strong conviction yet.

We have been looking at silver and gold side by side, despite both correcting significantly, their price structure tells different stories. Gold has formed a low followed by a higher low now flat lining a bit. Silver has formed a low from the ATH and has not been able to create a higher high after the dump, indicating weakness.

This divergence aligns with historical patterns: when precious metals peak, silver typically underperforms gold, we are seeing that dynamic playing out now.

There is also a catalyst: Chinese markets, including the Shanghai Gold exchange, close for the Chinese New Year from February 15 - 23, which could weaken demand, given that the Chinese market has been a major driver for metal prices.

Silver might continue to underperform gold for a while, so we have made automated bots to capitalize from this.

Bitcoin's historical 4-year cycles show cycle tops in Q4 of peak years, with bottoms 365 - 375 days later. We are currently 126 days past the recent top.

If the 4-year cycle plays out as normal, the likely bottom window would be around October 2026.
Previous bear market drawdowns were:
2013: - 86%,
2017:- 83%,
2022: - 77%.

Extrapolating the trend suggests a possible 68% drawdown, implying a $40k BTC as the worst case (from the recent $126k peak). BTC could bottom higher or earlier, as timing the exact bottom is nearly impossible.

Government shutdown FUD should clear fast.

It's partial, Senate already passed the package, House votes (likely Today) to wrap it up Speaker Johnson confident it'll be done quickly.

Just procedural noise at this point.
