An open-source Bitcoin mining stack is inevitable.
We welcome contributors and donors to support redefining the status-quo to keep Bitcoin decentralized and permission-less.
Bitcoin mining must be open-source or Bitcoin remains PERMISSIONED.
Check out my deep dive on our work at the @256FOUNDATION to understand why we're commoditizing the building blocks of the mining stack and how we're best positioned to pull it off.
256 Foundation is honored to be listed on the @unchained Bitcoin DAF.
Bitcoiners can now support open-source mining through a Bitcoin-native donor-advised fund while receiving tax benefits.
The 2026 Mujina grant term has been extended through the end of December.
Flashable FW images for S19 series machines and an installer application are coming soon.

This year's summit will heavily focus on workshops for building on open-source bitcoin mining tools (firmware customization, hashboard modifications, control board connections, mining pool set ups).

Bitcoin started as an open-source project.
But miners split from nodes, advanced to ASICs and closed the door. Today it is inherently permissioned.
A commoditized mining stack is necessary to return Bitcoin's decentralization and permissionlessness.

256 Red Team update:
Our original 30 day disclosure window closes today.
Every impacted party asked for an extension and is working with us in good faith.
Findings will publish when the windows close. We will keep the public posted.
~90% of ASICs run one vendor's closed-source firmware. Almost nobody has audited it.
We at @256FOUNDATION do.
Introducing the 256 Red Team 🧵 — the 256 Foundation's firmware security program. On hardware we own, in an isolated lab, under coordinated disclosure.
special night at the Park hosting Mining Monday w/ @skot9000 and @ryankuester
I think they have a really special workshop that can be hosted at other spaces/meetups or fundraising experiences.
ton of ideas from tonight and met some really cool people.
special TY to @protomining for making it happen 🙏
We're thankful for @HRF's continued support of the 256 Foundation and our Core Projects. This grant will help us polish latest revisions and validate hardware while continuing Mujina Firmware development and ecosystem nurturing.

Mujina is fully open-source mining firmware, with support coming for all manufacturer machines.
Right now the firmware application is barebones, but that doesn't mean you can't take it, side-load it, and make your own UI & distribution image.
We know barrier to entry is high right now, requiring SSH to install the firmware, but the snowball effect is underway!
Thank you to all our generous supporters of the @256FOUNDATION
We appreciate HRF's continued support!
Open-source mining inherently means open-source transaction settlement and issuance.
This is critical for a private, permission-less, and censorship-resistant monetary system for the world.
