The Trump administration, like the Biden administration before it, has been demanding that Canada and Mexico not serve as back doors for low-cost Chinese goods to enter the U.S. market under North American free trade agreements.” China has taken the gloves off! For US economic and national security we need to preserve and strengthen the best trade deal ever — the USMCA. Not wreck the trade pact with 25% tariffs. Let’s harmonize tariffs against China USMCA negotiated by first Trump Admin. Every Member of Congress from Texas in office during that time voted for it. It’s been a smashing success! China was #1 trading partner before deal. Now it’s third with Mexico #1 and Canada #2. Texas top export state for 23 straight years. We build goods together to compete against China in advanced manufacturing. Tariff free North American trade allows Americans to enjoy lower priced, healthy fruits and vegetables all year round like avocados, tomatoes and blueberries. And cheaper consumer electronics and other goods. And our restaurants to sometimes eke out a profit on margins on spirits like tequila (that you can’t make in US). Deal also helps keep energy prices more affordable for Americans. Canada and Mexico doing more than ever to prevent illegal migration and to keep deadly drugs out of US.
