they’re bent over the same motor, shoulder to shoulder, working the same side. later the machine is inside the cabin at a door panel while the guy stays under the hood.
no handoff. no waiting for the lift. no “hold this a second.”
the problem is simple.
most shop jobs are one-person jobs not because they need one person, but because a second body doesn’t pay. two techs on one car means two labour rates against one invoice, and book time pays the job, not the hours. so shops run one tech per bay and the guy asks for help only when the part is too heavy to hold alone.
now the smart objection, and it’s correct: everybody frames these clips as replacement. cheaper tech, same job, tech goes home. that framing is what gets the reply count, and it’s the least likely outcome.
but flip it.
look at what the second pair of hands actually removes. the trips to the bench. the part held in place while the bolt starts. the sensor you can’t reach without pulling something else first. those minutes aren’t billable and they aren’t skill — they’re the reason a 1.8 hour job takes three.
that’s what you’re watching. not a tech being replaced. a tech who stops walking away from the car.
the honest catch: I can’t see who’s driving those arms. a teleoperator offscreen is the standard way these demos are filmed, and it’s not disclosed here. every car is clean, on a level floor, hood already up. no seized fastener, no rounded head, no diagnostic — just placement work. and two bodies in one engine bay is an entrapment problem the moment something moves without warning, which is exactly why real deployments keep humanoids fenced off from people.
a shop doesn’t sell you a repair. it sells you a bay for an afternoon, and whatever fits into it.
