Coming from 2025, if you'd told me Lewis would head into the summer break P2, splitting the two Mercedes, I'd have signed that contract with both hands.

Yet here I am... disappointed.

And honestly? That's the biggest compliment I can pay Lewis and his team. The leap has been so massive that P2 no longer feels like overachieving, it feels like unfinished business.

There were races that slipped away. Some through mistakes, some through circumstances, some through... let's just call them interesting stewarding decisions.

But if there's one thing this first half has reminded Lewis, it's that nobody will gives him anything in this sport. Not his rivals. Not even his team at times. AND certainly not the FIA. Every inch has to be taken.

Fifty points is a mountain.

However, if there's one driver I'd trust to erase that deficit, it's Lewis Hamilton. It'll take the cleanest, sharpest, most ruthless version of him, but we've seen that version before.

And if Ferrari truly believe they can leave 2026 with both championships, the second half has to reflect that ambition. Fight for the Constructors', absolutely. But when it comes to the Drivers', the maths has to dictate the strategy. Lewis is 50 points back. Charles is 81. At some point, sentiment must give way to probability.
