The biggest struggle in chess is not endgames, tactics, strategy, or preventing blunders.
It’s what the fuck to play as black when white starts with 1. d4.
Great news! XTX Markets has just announced the launch of the Artificial Intelligence Mathematical Olympiad Prize (AI-MO Prize), a $10 million challenge fund. This initiative is designed to accelerate the development of AI models for mathematics. https://t.co/QWJnoOvpjo

Happy #TrailerTuesday Had a blast making this trailer for my first game, GREENFIELD. Surprised how much clarity it gave me about the game's mood. Shots that weren't serving the mood were cut, and led me to revaluate those moments in game.
I had some of the hardest weeks of my life earlier this year. Questioned it all. My work, my purpose, my faith, my reason for being... everything.
For weeks, it was hard for me to even get out of bed, and I swear that I saw only in black and white for a few weeks in there, too.
But now that I'm on the other side of the abyss, I feel like the pits of agony introduced me to parts of my creative spirit that'd previously been shut and heightened my sensitivity to beauty — and my desire to create it.
This newfound quest for beauty is the phoenix rising out of the ashes of sorrow.
I wouldn't wish such sorrow on anybody, but I can now see why so much brilliant art has been created by people trying to make sense of suffering.
I asked @donaldglover about the meaning of life
He told me:
"The meaning of life is to love... the process of caring for something in the midst of knowing it too shall pass. Like, it's very weird to have children and know that you're kind of damning them to death. That's what's crazy about it. But you're doing that—you're taking care anyway. And by dying yourself, you're showing them how to die. So it's really just to love things and take care of things, and that will keep the process going.
Man, I feel like I'm being down on a Sunday. I swear to God, I'm a happy person. [Laughs.] But I think this stuff always makes me happy in a way, because I feel like there's something actually really deep happening and the stakes are high. I think that's why I kinda talk like that."

I can't believe I met you. I can't believe the happiness I feel with you. You have a vast, vast soul and I will always, always, always come back to it. Kisses, kisses, kisses.
From 2012-2017 I wrote six chess books (the first five 2012-2014). The Grandmaster Preparation series. I decided to not publish any other books for a while, to not outshine these books (I did co-write four books with Boris Gelfand, published in his name).
Last year I then published A MATTER OF ENDGAME TECHNIQUE, which the ECF have kindly nominated for the Book of the Year award.
But my discipline has been good over this decade. I have so much material I have worked on and I am so much better at explaining things than I have ever been. There is a great desire in me for writing chess books. I love chess. I love books. And I especially love chess books.
This autumn I have two books coming out. On the 27th September ENDGAME LABYRINTHS, co-written with the current World Champion in study composition, Steffen Nielsen.
In October, Sam Shankland and I will be publishing a day/night pair of books on rook endings, covering theory (Sam) and concepts (Jacob). We will decide on the date the moment we know when the book will be finished from the printer.
These books are much better than what I wrote earlier. And coming books will be better too. And they will not be exclusively focused on higher level players, as my books have been for the last decade. I don't know what people will buy, but you will get the chance :-)
4 hours of chess commentary was fun, but not training. 🔥
Day 17 of 33 with Golombek’s “Capablanca’s Best Games”.😁
Played through 52 games with 48 to go. 👍
What move did Capa play with the White pieces in this game and why? 🤔
