This isn’t true. Many of us do acknowledge that the burden of failed governance falls hardest on the poor, strained clinics, overcrowded schools, competition for housing and water, including politicians. That failure of governance is real and not in dispute.
What is in dispute is the leap from “the state has failed to manage this” to “therefore ordinary people are entitled to enforce borders themselves through intimidation, blocking and exclusion.” Those are not the same conversation, and conflating them isn’t an accident; it’s the point, because it lets this get framed as a disagreement about facts when it’s actually a disagreement about whether private citizens may take the law into their own hands.
Intimidating people in their homes so they can’t sleep safely, whether documented or not is not a grievance. Blocking someone from a clinic queue or a school enrollment line is not a resource allocation debate. And we must be honest, this is never targeted at undocumented only, it’s everywhere. Those are acts of coercion, and in many cases criminal conduct, aimed at people some entirely undocumented, with the explicit goal of making their presence in this country physically unbearable. That’s vigilantism, and it’s a direct violation of human rights.
No one gets to vote on whether another human being retains their dignity. Access to emergency healthcare, for instance, isn’t contingent on documentation status; it’s a constitutional and legal floor that exists regardless of how angry, how justified, or how failed-by-the-state someone feels.
A citizen doesn’t acquire the authority to suspend another person’s rights simply because the government has failed to do its job. Two failures don’t produce a right.
So when this gets framed as “we just disagree on how serious illegal immigration is,” that’s a deflection. The actual fault line is whether human rights are conditional, negotiable, and revocable by private citizens acting outside the law because one is aggrieved.
South Africa has 3.1 million immigrants living in the country, which represents 4% of the population.
Anti-migration groups claim there are 15 million illegal immigrants living in the country. However, this claim has been debunked.
you see now being easily distracted is a problem? Germans will gentrify the flats and you'll still be hunting the cellphone repair man like a silly goose.

"What concerns us about the rising anti-migrant sentiment is that it fractures society and sets neighbour against neighbour. That is not how you solve problems or build a country. Our anger must be directed upwards, at systems of power and failure not downwards at the powerless.” Tessa Dooms, Rivonia Circle. #Xenophobia #Afrophobia #June30
