For three years the father of my two sons, and Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been brutally penalised by his political opponents, in a personal vendetta by Army Chief, Asim Munir,  which according to the UN,  amounts to torture and which  is now taking a potentially fatal toll on his physical and mental health. 

He has endured 3 years of solitary confinement. For nearly ten months now his family has been denied contact with him. He has been deprived of the most basic human contact, denied access to books, lawyers and doctors.

The international human-rights standards are unequivocal. Under the UN’s Nelson Mandela Rules, solitary confinement lasting more than 15 consecutive days is prohibited and amounts to torture.

He has endured this treatment not for 15 days, but for three years.

Pakistan’s own Supreme Court has now intervened: ordering comprehensive  medical treatment, access to his personal doctor, regular family visits and twice-weekly calls with his sons.

Yet those orders are being defied.

This is no longer simply a Pakistani political matter. It is a human-rights emergency.

He has deep and lifelong ties to Britain. He studied at Oxford University, captained Oxford University cricket and spent years playing county cricket in England. His relationship with this country stretches back more than half a century. His charitable activities were internationally recognised, and  include building the only free cancer hospital in Pakistan as well as a university.

His sons, my two boys, Sulaiman and Kasim, are British citizens. They have been forced to watch their father’s health decline from thousands of miles away, prevented from visiting him, denied visas, publicly threatened by government officials with arrest themselves, and even denied court-mandated regular phone calls. 

I have repeatedly appealed to the UK government to intervene. Purported attempts at back channelling have evidently failed. The previous Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy informed me in writing that Britain would not  intervene if my sons, British citizens, are arrested when they travel to Pakistan to visit their father. 

@FCDOGovUK: Britain must now speak out publicly and unequivocally. Demand that Pakistan comply with its own Supreme Court;  restore Imran Khan’s medical access, his right to see his family, end his prolonged isolation and uphold his fundamental human rights.

Pakistan is a Commonwealth country. Britain has a long and proud tradition of standing against arbitrary detention, inhumane treatment and the denial of fundamental rights. Those principles mean very little if we invoke them only selectively and neglect them when inconvenient.
This an appeal to the new Burnham government  to please now do the right thing.

To the disappointed followers of PTI:

There is nothing to be disappointed in yesterday Hospital Transfer Saga. This is why:

1. Most important news- Imran Khan was alive and physically in shape. It matters most to me. Hell with the rest of the politics.

2. The Government committed a blatant court violation by taking him to PIMS and not allowing Dr Faisal Sultan to be part of the medical board. A strong base for Contempt of Court even if theoretical.

3. The narrative of "Deal and Dheel" by many pro-establishment journalist like Ghareeda Farooqi was done and dusted.

4. The propaganda related to the interview of Zulfi Bukhari to Reuters regarding "Imran khan if freed will change narrative about Establishment and the Army chief" was also buried in the darkness of Islamabad.

5. The hatred of the people against this government and the establishment proliferated as they were deceived while showering flowers and petals on the roads to the the Shifa Hospital. This will help the upcoming street movement on Sep 27.

6. This deception further alerted the international media and forums about the ill-faith of the government that whet were they hiding by not taking him to a Private hospital when he was already taken out of the jail.

7. The whole drama will help the quicker formation of the opposition alliance in the parliament.

So, cheer up. Imran khan even transferred to Shifa Hospital would not have stayed there longer as his beloved wife was sick and incarcerated back in Adiala; he would never leave her alone there.

I see a ray of hope in all this darkness of night of 21 Aug. So cheer up as

عسکری ترامیم کے زریعے عدلیہ کا چ��رہ مسخ اور آئین پامال کر دیا گیا لیکن اس کے باجود ہم خان صاحب کے حکم پر انہی عدالتوں سے انصاف مانگ رہے ہیں پھر بھی اگر اتنا عرصہ گزرنے کے بعد کیسسز کی سنوائی تک نہ ہوسکی اور اب باوجودعدالتی آرڈر کے علاج جیسی بنیادی س��ولت بھی نہیں دی جاسکتی اور عدالت اس معاملے میں مکمل طور پر اپنی بے بسی ظاہر کرتی ہے تو یہ آخری نقاب بھی اٹھ جائے تاکہ پھر فیصلےعوامی عدالت میں ہوں اور انہی سڑکوں پر ہوں۔

اڈیالہ سے شفاء تک — مردِ مجاہد عمران خان کی فتح کا ایک اور باب - قید میں ہے عمران خان، مگر زنجیروں میں جکڑا ہے نظام ۔
وہ جُھکا نہیں… آخرکار نظام کو جھکنا پڑا - ایک بے گناہ ، نہتا قیدی، سامنے پورا مسلح طاقتور نظام ۔
اب تیرے ہجر میں اے فہم و ذکاء کے یوسف،
کتنی آنکھیں ہیں جو یعقوب ہوئی جاتی ہیں ۔

آج پاکستان کی سیاسی تاریخ میں ای�� ایسا منظر رقم ہو رہا ہے جسے آنے والے وقت میں محض ایک اغواء کئیے گئے قیدی کی جیل سے اسپتال منتقلی کے واقعے کے طور پر نہیں، بلکہ عزم، استقامت اور مزاحمت کی ایک علامت کے طور پر یاد کیا جائے گا ۔ اڈیالہ جیل کی بلند و بالا دیواروں کے پیچھے قید عمران خان آج شفا انٹرنیشنل ہسپتال پہنچا دئیے گئے ۔
یقیننآ یہ ایک بیمار قیدی کی اسپتال منتقلی ہے، لیکن اس منظر کے پیچھے گزشتہ 3 برس کی ایک پوری سیاسی داستان کھڑی ہے۔
ایک طرف طاقت، اختیار، ریاستی وسائل، پابندیاں، منافقتیں ،رکاوٹیں، گرفتاریاں، بوگس مقدمات اور قید…
اور دوسری طرف ایک شخص!
ایک نہتا بے گناہ قیدی، جس کے پاس نہ کوئی سرکاری عہدہ ہے، نہ ریاستی طاقت، نہ بندوق، نہ اختیار — مگر اس کے پاس خدا پر یقین کامل ، عزم۔ نظریہ۔ اور اپنے مؤقف پر ڈٹ جانے کا حوصلہ ہے۔ آج وہی شخص اڈیالہ جیل سے باہر آ رہا ہے۔
آج ایک قیدی نہیں نکلا — آج ایک نظریہ اڈیالہ سے باہر ن��لا ہے۔ 9 ماہ کی تنہائی کے بعد بھی مردِ مجاہد ڈٹ کر کھڑا ہے !
یہ صرف اڈیالہ جیل سے شفا انٹرنیشنل ہسپتال تک ایک قیدی کی منتقلی نہیں۔ بلکہ یہ 9 ماہ کی قیدِ تنہائی، اذیت، بیماری اور بے شمار پابندیوں کے بعد ایک ایسے انسان کے دوبارہ عوام کے درمیان آنے کا سفر ہے جس نے طاقت کے ��امنے ہتھیار ڈالنے سے انکار کر دیا۔ سوچیئے ! ایک انسان کو مسلسل قیدِ تنہائی میں کیوں رکھا جاتا ہے؟ قید تنہائی Solitary confinement کا مقصد ،انسان کو اس کے سماجی، ذہنی اور جذباتی سہاروں سے کاٹنا ہوتا ہے-اسے تنہا کر کے اس پر ایسا نفسیاتی دباؤ ڈالنا ہوتاہے کہ بالآخر وہ ٹوٹ جائے اور ہتھیار ڈال دے- مگر عمران خان نے ہتھیار نہیں ڈالے۔
9 دن نہیں — 9 ماہ - ایک انسان 9 دن کی مکمل تنہائی بھی کس اذیت سے گزارتا ہے، اس کا تصور کرنا مشکل ہے۔ پھر ایک ایساشخص جو مہینوں ایک محدود کمرے میں تنہا ہو؛ جیل اسٹاف سے رابطہ نا ہو، اخبار نہیں، ٹی وی نہیں، کتابیں نہیں۔
ایک چھوٹا سا کمرہ… اور ایک انسان! دن، رات، خاموشی اور اپنے خیالات۔ یہ جسمانی قید سے کہیں بڑھ کر نفسیاتی دباؤ بن جاتی ہے۔ اور عمران خان کے بارے میں حکومتی میڈیکل بورڈ کی یہ رپورٹس سامنے آئیں کہ اس طویل قید کے دوران انہیں شدید ذہنی دباؤ، بلڈ پریشر اور دل سے متعلق تکالیف کا سامنا رہا۔

قفس میں ڈال کے سمجھا تھا، اب وہ ٹوٹ گیا
وہ شخص جسم سے کمزور ، حوصلے سے فولاد نکلا
ہزار راتیں تنہائی میں کاٹ کر بھی وہ
نہ سر جھکا، نہ نظریے سے ایک قدم پیچھے ہٹا

اگر ایک قیدی کو جھکانا مقصود تھا تو پھر پورے نظام کو اتنی طاقت استعمال کرنے کے باوجود اسے جھکانے میں کامیابی کیوں نہ ہوئی؟ عمران خان کا اپنا ایک تاریخی جملہ ہے:
“کیا مجھے کبھی کسی نے کنٹرول کیا ہے؟ کوئی نہیں کرسکتا۔ صرف میرا نظریہ مجھے کنٹرول کرتا ہے۔” آج یہ جملہ اڈیالہ جیل کی دیواروں سے نکل کر پورے ملک میں گونجتا محسوس ہو رہا ہے۔
کہا گیا عوام کو روک دو۔ راستے بند کر دو۔ مارکیٹیں بند کرا دو۔
د��انیں بند کرا دو۔ سٹریٹ لائٹس بند کر دو۔سیکیورٹی حصار قائم کر دو۔ شفا انٹرنیشنل ہسپتال کو قلعے میں تبدیل کر دو۔موبائل فون لے لو۔ سگنل بند کر دو۔ مگر… عوام ، سپریم کورٹ کے حکم کے مطابق ، منع کرنے کے باوجود بھی وہاں پہنچ گئے۔
اور پھر وہ منظر بھی تاریخ کا حصہ بن گیا جب استقبال کے لیے سڑکوں کو گلاب کی پتیوں سے سرخ کر دیا گیا۔ یہ محض پھولوں کی پتیاں نہیں تھیں۔
یہ ان لوگوں کے جذبات تھے جو اپنے قائد کی ایک جھلک دیکھنے، اس کی خیریت دریافت کرنے اور یہ پیغام دینے پہنچے تھے کہ:
قید جسم کو کیا جا سکتا ہے، نظریے کو نہیں۔
آج عمران خان 73 برس کی عمر میں بھی ڈٹ کر کھڑا ہے۔
اور یہی اس نظام کی سب سے بڑی شکست ہے۔
اور بالآخر وہی نظام، جس نے اسے قید کر رکھا تھا، عدالت کے حکم کے سامنے اس کی اسپتال منتقلی پر مجبور ہوا۔
آج اڈیالہ سے شفا تک کا یہ سفر صرف چند کلومیٹر کا سفر نہیں۔
یہ استقامت سے مزاحمت تک، مزاحمت سے فتح تک اور فتح سے تاریخ تک کا سفر ہے-اقتدار عارضی ہوت�� ہے، قید عارضی ہوتی ہے، رکاوٹیں عارضی ہوتی ہیں ،مگر تاریخ میں وہی لوگ زندہ رہتے ہیں جو اپنے یقین کے سامنے سر نہیں جھکاتے۔
آج عمران خان اڈیالہ سے شفاء پہنچ گئے ۔ مگر اس سفر کے ساتھ ایک سوال بھی تاریخ کے سامنے جا رہا ہے:آخر وہ شخص کون تھا جسے 9 ماہ کی تنہائی بھی نہ جُھکا سکی؟ وہ عمران خان تھا۔
اور وہ آج بھی ڈٹ کر کھڑا ہے۔ 🔥
