Over the past 12 years, the Gender Parity Index (GPI) has improved at the secondary and higher secondary levels—from 0.99 to 1.0 and from 0.98 to 1.1, respectively (2013–14 to 2025–26).

A GPI of 1.1 at the higher secondary level indicates higher enrolment of girls than boys, reflecting improved retention, transition and participation of girls in education.

A significant step towards education for all.

The Ministry of Education, DoSEL (Dept of School Education and Literacy) organised an Orientation Workshop on PRASHAST 2.0 and other Inclusive Education interventions today, bringing together States/UTs to introduce the revamped PRASHAST 2.0 App and strengthen inclusive education in schools.

In his keynote address, Secretary, DoSEL, Shri T. K. Anil Kumar reaffirmed the Department's commitment to inclusive education under NEP 2020 and the RPwD Act, 2016.

He noted that while Children with Special Needs (CwSN) constitute about 1.73% of India's child population (Census 2011), UDISE+ enrolment of CwSN is only 0.89% against the general enrollment , highlighting gaps in identification and enrolment.

He urged States/UTs to:

👉 Expedite the UDISE+ Student Progression exercise.

👉 Ensure timely screening under PRASHAST 2.0.

👉 Complete teacher sensitisation and strengthen capacity building in inclusive education.

👉 Carry out accessibility audits of schools under Samagra Shiksha.

👉 Make universal PRASHAST 2.0 screening a mission priority to ensure every CwSN receives timely support.

The nationwide launch of the #GenZAgainstAddiction – Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi witnessed unprecedented participation, with over one crore youth joining from more than 28,000 locations across the country.

Students, teachers, parents, School Management Committees and communities came together to take the #NashaMuktBharat Pledge , reaffirming their collective commitment towards a drug-free India.

Department of School Education & Literacy is strengthening multilingual education by expanding access to quality learning resources in Indian languages...

New textbooks by @ncert for Grades 1, 2, 3 and 6 are available in 22 scheduled languages, while translations for higher grades are progressing steadily.

To further support language learning, third language textbooks for Grade 6 and Grade 9 are now available in 18 Indian languages, promoting multilingualism and advancing the vision of #NEP2020.
