You are absolutely right Shannon, Canadians should be outraged by these recent events that bring to light the failure of the past and current Liberal governments in the area of resource development.
First we have the revelation that we are getting shipments of LNG from 25,000 km away, and now in another “I told you so” moment, people should start to get the hint that our allies, along with many other countries, rely on unstable suppliers of oil and natural gas in an increasingly unstable world.
In addition to the killed oil pipeline projects like Energy East and Northern Gateway, we have completely dropped the ball on LNG.
10 years ago the US was nowhere with LNG, and as you stated earlier, during that past 10 years the US has approved 28 projects with 8 major terminals up and running, and 8 more under construction. And where are we?
In 2021 we had the perfect opportunity to send massive amounts of natural gas from Alberta to the eastern Provinces with the Saguenay LNG project. As we all know, Trudeau cancelled it saying “no business case.” In reality, the Impact Assessment, C-69 , report stated that the increased CO2 emissions were not compatible with current climate policy.
If Canada's tiny fraction of the world’s emissions continue to be more important than our economy, we are doomed.
Can you imagine what our allies like Germany and Japan think of us? Leaders of both of these countries came to us after the start of the Ukraine war practically begging for a stable supply of LNG. That's when Justin Trudeau gave them the “no real business case” comment and even blessed them with a lecture on the benefits of green energy.
Oh well, since then Germany signed a long-term contract with Qatar, you know, that stable country in the stable Middle East where every shipment of Oil, LPG, and LNG has to go through the Strait of Hormuz. What could possibly go wrong?
What is even more disappointing about the current Liberal government is that Mark Carney campaigned on a promise to make Canada an energy superpower. He has been in power for almost a year, and what has he accomplished? NOTHING.
For the past decade the previous Liberals not only rejected projects but also piled on more and more investment killing laws to the point where now investor confidence is practically zero.
Carney has done nothing to repeal any of these, but instead passed Bill C-5 which simply adds another layer of bureaucracy and also ensures that every decision on major projects is decided by the PMO.
The time is not too late to start building pipelines to get our resources to tidewater, whether it be oil or natural gas. The writing should be on the wall that countries are going to be regarding energy security as a national security, and looking to stable countries like Canada for a stable supply.
It is becoming very evident that the current government under Carney is simply not prepared to do what is necessary to restore investor confidence. The Conservative Party, and people like you @ShannonStubbsMP have been repeating the same message over and over - get rid of the investment killing legislation, set basic environmental requirements, SUPPORT rather than intimidate project proponents, and then get the hell out of the way.
Canada could be the global exporter of choice, but it has been the Liberals who have only approved 4 of the 18 Canadian LNG private sector proposals that were there when they took office. The reality is that the only LNG export terminal operating in Canada today is LNG Canada Phase 1, which was approved by the previous Conservative government in 2015.
The Liberals have been in power for over a decade. They've had the time, and opportunity to develop Canadian LNG -- but have refused.
@billdinYEG@ShannonStubbsMP This isn't the time to think about Canada’s insignificant CO2 emissions. Canada represents about 1.5% of the world's total. And the oil sands itself, approximately 1/10 of 1%.
Our main concern right now should be something called the ECONOMY.
@business@ExnerPirot Carney is more interested in the carbon credit market to enrich Brookfield. He doesn't give a flying fuck about the pipeline, he has added so many poison pills I can't see how it will ever be built.
Doesn't Bill C-59 make you liable if you green-wash, cause that's what you‘re doing. Can you prove all of this is going to work? Remember, before you can say anything your facts and figures have to concur with “internationally recognized methodology.”
Oh wait a minute sorry, that's just for oil companies and people like the Pathways Alliance claiming that carbon capture works.
Which raises an interesting point. Mark Carney now says pipeline is contingent on carbon capture, but since the anti-green washing bill, Pathways had to scrub their website, lest they get a $10 million fine.
So now Carney says we have to have it, but the oil companies are afraid to advertise how well it works.
When the Pathways Alliance came out with their ‘Let's Clear The Air’ advertising campaign, people like @cathmckenna, @CharlieAngusNDP, @s_guilbeault, and @JonathanWNV were enraged, because Pathways said they were trying to get on board and help out with the quest for net-zero.
So now we have the wacko-green-freaks saying carbon capture is pseudoscience, passed a bill - Bill C-59, to shut them up lest they poisoned the minds of Canadians.
So before we get the pipeline that should have been built 10 years ago, now we have to have CCUS, (that actually works preferably).
Once you have sorted out your cluster-fuck @liberal_party just let us know OK?🤡😂
@LauraSnoxa74741@ShannonStubbsMP Big deal, what about the other 72 projects she mentioned? All the more reason to scrap the investment killing laws and then get the fuck out of the way so the private sector can do their thing.
@RJAJohnson@ShannonStubbsMP That's right, the war in Iran future proofed the oil and gas industry for good. Carney is just making up lame excuses because he doesn't really want to see a pipeline built.
I'm surprised you actually posted that article @timhodgsonmt, it only makes your government look more incompetent.
Isn't it kind of telling when Dr. Birol, the head of the IEA - who we are used to hearing say, “there must never be any more oil or gas projects approved if we are going to reach net-zero” - is now asking Canada to hurry up and get with the program on pipelines??
Here are some quotes from the article for anyone without a subscription:
“As countries re-examine their energy policies – from where they source their oil and gas to the pace of electrifying their economies – Canada has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to move from being a country with significant and varied energy resources resources to being a major exporter.”
“It’s not just a potential pipeline that Canada’s government must get a move on, it’s everything.”
“Countries will choose their energy partners much more carefully at this time. They will also look at the reputation and the risks of their energy partners.”
“As Canada works to expand its export footprint, instilling trust and making energy from the country synonymous with reliability must be core to its strategy, so customers are confident that even in a crisis, Canada will continue to deliver.”
Mr. Hodgson, in recent interviews you haven't shown one iota of enthusiasm when asked about pipelines, and neither has @MarkJCarney. In fact you double down on the notion of having to future-proof the oil industry by way of industrial carbon tax and CCUS as a prerequisite for pipeline construction.
You even scoffed at Donald Trump‘s preapproval of a pipeline and said we can't trust that because, “you know the US, first they approve pipelines then they cancel them.”😂 Really funny Tim, you mean kinda like the Liberals do?
When your government was elected last spring and you served up your pathetic MOU, you had no idea that the worst energy supply crisis in history was going to happen. The fact that you are now scraping the bottom of the barrel for excuses to do nothing just shows you were never sincere about doing anything in the first place.
@ShannonStubbsMP Mark Carney is no different from Trudeau, it's climate first and our economy second, ideology over common sense. He's even worse than Trudeau though, he shamelessly lied just to get into power.
@RobynUrback@dkreative1 Leadership? Who are we leading? Who is following us? Oh my God I know, it must be the industrial carbon tax, or maybe the carbon capture project that is the prerequisite for us to build a new oil pipeline. Yeah, I can see them lining up already. FUCK🤡😂
@tchest1973@yus416@MarkJCarney Explain this princess. Captain super-economist has done fuck all nothing in the past year, yet he manages to convince people like this to cross the floor.
Spoiler alert - Carney has lots of money and influence.
@AndrewLawton She's trying to delete/scrub this this a.m. here you go; I downloaded it knowing she'd try. So I'm ensuring it's reviewed/seen so Canadians can decide what the next step is
@kazetensei@davidhindsmith@MarkJCarney@PierrePoilievre She joined the gravy train, you know green slush funds, whatever Carney bribed her with, etc.
She will probably be a new cabinet minister, committee head, you know a few extra bucks, just watch.
I wasn't referring to 1953 I'm talking about more current times. Harper approved or supported Northern Gateway, Energy East, and the TMX expansion, all by private sector proponents back in the day when they had faith in the federal government to not pull the rug out from under them or make it impossible for them to proceed. When Trudeau was elected in 2015 everything went to hell, and you know damn well that I'm right.
Really? Let me guess Ken, you transported the country back in time, put the Conservatives in power, let them do their thing, and then transported us back to the parallel universe that we currently exist in, and are blessing us with your infinite wisdom?
Well thanks a bunch Dr. Numb Nuts. You truly are a testament to typical liberal ignorance. Congratulations.🤡😂
@TheRealDKGray@ShannonStubbsMP No they didn’t, but it was called the Northern Gateway pipeline that could have been until it was ditched by other than Justin Trudeau himself. Do some fucking homework bro.
