First demonstration of a topological photonic crystal in a quasi-bulk van der Waals material WS2: https://t.co/YYb7hu45Oq
The WS2 nanophotonics platform is similar to silicon-on-insulator: exfoliated 200 micron flakes (30-300 nm thick) are attached directly to SiO2.

Read about the most sophisticated nanophotonic structures made so far from multilayer transition metal dichalcogenides in our new work on WS2 topological photonic crystals: https://t.co/59XXR1uRRJ. Van der Waals materials are wonderful not only in their monolayer form!
Registration is open for the 2nd International Workshop on "Near-field Optical Imaging and Spectroscopy", 12 September 2024, University of Sheffield: https://t.co/rtle8fqck2. Register to attend demonstration of our setup by Attocube on 11 September. Bring your own samples!
Our latest work "High Q Hybrid Mie-Plasmonic Resonances in van der Waals Nanoantennas on Gold Substrate" is online https://t.co/JNyqdSAGLY.
Use of quasi-bulk high-refractive-index TMDs opens new approach for achieving high-Q nanophotonic structures in visible and near-infrared.
New PhD project in our group in Sheffield: "New concepts and advanced materials for quantum nanophotonics". In this project we will extend the ideas developed for atomically thin 2D materials to nanophotonics. Apply here: https://t.co/EiOyAB7Mi5
@OPNmagazine@USNRL Layered materials work perfectly as waveguides, nanoantannas, photonic crystals etc. Many have high refractive indices, useful optical anisotropy & nonlinearity. Also, thanks to van der Waals forces they stick to any surface. Learn more in our recent work https://t.co/De7lgSOb17
Our new paper in Advanced Materials applies alloying in atomically thin semiconductors for band structure engineering in van der Waals heterostructures. This work is dedicated to Alessandro Catanzaro who led this research during his PhD in Sheffield. https://t.co/x1emPZour0
Our new work on "Nonlinear Rydberg exciton-polaritons in Cu2O microcavities" has just appeared in Light Science and Applications. Great UK/Germany collaboration crucially supported by a Centre-to-Centre EPSRC grant between Sheffield and TU Dortmund. https://t.co/35pxjbjra7
