QUICK LESSON (for those who may not know):

The Celestials are massive cosmic gods who go to other planets looking to judge, experiment on lower life forms and engineer the stages of evolution.

The Celestials came to earth millions of years ago and performed experiments on early stage humans which resulted in Eternals and Deviants being created. The mutant gene derives from Deviants, a subspecies of humanity who possess very unstable genetics so mutantkind is connected closely to the Celestials.

Eson the Searcher is self explanatory by name, he goes out into the universe to search for new worlds and species. In context of ‘97 (and canonically in the comics), Apocalypse found the celestial technology and Eson granted him permission to utilize it in order for him to be a curator of mutantkind and push it’s evolution so it makes sense as to why Apocalypse was chosen since he’s technically the “First Mutant.”
