On the untold history of midwifery
Midwifery didn’t become “dangerous” until institutions decided they wanted control. For most of human history, birth was guided by midwives who understood physiology, timing, intuition, and generational knowledge far better than any medical board
Midwives were pushed out not because they were ineffective, but because they threatened a growing system built on interventions, billing codes, and hierarchy
The smear campaign came later. Painting midwives as unscientific while ignoring that modern obstetrics often creates the very complications it claims to solve, over-monitoring, induction cascades, unnecessary C-sections, fluorescent-lit circadian disrupted environments, and disrupted hormonal rhythms
Midwifery was demonized because it preserved autonomy, respected biology, and didn’t fit the industrial model of birth

Do you know the odds of you being alive right now?
Not just a human being, but you… exactly you.
The chances are so small, they’re almost impossible to calculate. Scientists estimate the odds of your existence are 1 in 400 trillion.
Let that sink in.
To get to you, it took 4 billion years of life evolving, adapting, surviving. It took thousands of generations
🔹 2 parents 🔹 4 grandparents 🔹 8 great-grandparents 🔹 16 great-great-grandparents 🔹 …and so on, doubling each time.
Go back just 30 generations, and over 1 billion ancestors had to meet, survive famine, war, disease, heartbreak, and impossible odds…
Just for you to breathe today.
Every one of your ancestors made it.
They endured what would break most of us, hunger, loss, exile, grief, battle.
And now, here you are. Alive. A miracle walking.
And yet, we forget.
We get lost in modern struggle.
We think we’re failing because we’re tired, or heartbroken, or unsure of our path.
But if you zoom out, really zoom out
You’ll see: you are not lost. You are the result of an unbroken chain of survival and love.
You are not just lucky to be here
You are opportunity in motion. You are a chance for healing, for joy, for change. You carry the strength of those who came before you, and their wildest hopes for the future.
So when life feels heavy…
When the struggle blinds you to the beauty…
Remember: perspective is everything. You are not behind. You are becoming. And just being here is more than enough.
