You know, when @jarpad was called out for lending support to Perez Hilton, he admitted he was ignorant of the situation and deleted his tweet and, frankly, I believe him. That was also kind of the end of it.

If @JensenAckles apologized for glazing Johnny Depp’s viral clip because he wasn’t aware of the overall context — that that clip went viral due to an inauthentic smear campaign to intentionally deflect from Amber’s video evidence of domestic abuse — I would believe him, too. I — likely more than most people — know how insidious that smear campaign was.

Even if you didn’t INTEND to cause harm, you can still be held accountable for the IMPACT of the harm you caused. I think anyone who causes harm should be called out, but also given the opportunity to course correct.

And I also think — perhaps more importantly — this should remind all of us that when we see a viral clip it’s important to chase down the context *before* we run our mouths.
