@Chad_De_Boeuf@RujiraNetwork The market cap of $RUNE hit 2.8 billion when only BEPSwap (on Binance chain/BEP-2) was live as a-proof of-concept
Food for thought
Agreed, tokenomics doesn't attract new users, just RUNE holders perhaps.
I understand your position that RUNE will capture value from increased users/volume resulting from getting the word out.
My point is that if the critics are right and there's a disconnect between protocol success and RUNE's value prop, marketing wouldn't fix an outdated model that doesn't optimally capture value from new users/volume.
Doubts aside, I'm similarly optimistic about Rujira increasing TC volume and RUNE's ability to capture value without needing Rujira's users to know or care about RUNE.
In any case, I appreciate your feedback on this.
I've held $RUNE since the BEPSwap days, believing Thorchain just needs integration with chains that house active DeFi and TVL, and frontends to drive business to TC is all we needed to kickstart the flywheel. The community's points on value accrual issues and outdated economic model are compelling and I hope they're being seriously considered. I'm skeptical of the marketing push as a fix; DeFi thrives on profit, not ads. Look at $HYPE: minimal marketing, yet it's now a multi-billion market cap. I'm not saying it's broken, but IF something is not working it needs to be fixed, not promoted. The majority of would-be investors are not likely to bond their tokens and would likely just want to hold RUNE and they should be incentivized to do so.
Without ThorFi, we'd likely have a different discussion, like at worst "why is RUNE stuck at $10-15, wen ATH?" I can see Rujira pulling interest from RUNE short-term, but I'm hopeful it ignites the flywheel with consistent volume, proving TC's value prop for RUNE, that is if there isn't a problem with the value capture & model.

As a trader/investor, I'm bullish on THORChain and Rujira. But I always consider the flipside to any bull case for my investments. This thread and its replies have given me pause for thought. If you haven't read it already, I recommend it.
Something is off, and we need to figure out what it is. Do we not understand economics? Do we not understand marketing? So we not understand the market sentiments? Is the tokenomics wrong? Are we impatient? Is $RUNE being shorted? Most promises have not panned out?
@kylekrason RUNE technicals are definitely weak post-THORFi, but at 1.32, itβs in its 1.00-1.50 range from BTCβs $16k bear low. With BTC & ETH in bull mode, 1.20 seems a consolidation zone imo. Here is a chart that I used in a recent thread for perspective.
