i know what my issue with rust is.
the game is successful on paper and i am well aware that i am an extreme example of a rust player- so my opinion is always to be taken with a grain of salt. however i am very mindful of that when i express my thoughts.
there are so many new things getting added to the game, some great, some not so great- regardless it's change which is introduced in a refreshing way that lets people explore new metas and just overall find new ways and places to progress with the end goal of having fun.
i think change is great, mostly. (hear me out)
my issue with rust is that i dont need to fight other players over progressing with these new additions and a lot of the time, genuinely just unfun to fight sometimes.
why bother forcing PvP interactions when the cons vastly outweigh the pros? (i'd argue there's a better time investment in doing anything other than PvP), also:
- heavy pot
- horse armour
- kevlar + plates
- incen
- HV "pvp"
- roofcamp/fob "pvp"
- 1 grid "pvp"
everyone has seen this list before and it can obviously go on forever but im not necessarily asking for everything to be changed.
my point is: pvp isn't at all needed to progress anymore.
you don't need to face any single thing off that list, and if you do- you can easily just travel to a different part of the map or simply just vow to never leave your base again and start a farm to progress and "win wipe" (no hate only facts)
PvP interactions used to be a necessity for almost everyone. you used to have to brute force your way into winning a fight no matter the odds or number of losses. winning a big fight would be a bigger step than any in progressing further on wipe.
as satisfying and enjoyable as this version of the game was for me, i understand that this made the game unenjoyable for many. which is when new recoil was introduced to make pvp easier and more realistic for everyone- but then on top of that, many buffs and new avenues to get loot were also added, meaning players dont need to fight over 2 high tier loot spots when there is now 10 for example.
what this means now is that pvp is something people have the option to do for "fun", except now pvp is rarely ever fun- and sometimes, some groups genuinely just never try to fight anyone else.
so in my opinion, progression is far too easy and fighting other players isn't anywhere close as enjoyable as it was previously
how would i make it better? i think there's 2 options, but only one should be implemented:
1. overhaul progression fully as a whole: don't be afraid to REMOVE certain ways to progress/remove monuments (especially deep sea + outpost drone shops for lethal trades), make it harder but not more annoying to get loot, merge + remove safe zones, force players to fight over less monuments (i know that each of these points is easier said than done, i could write an entire book on each of these points)
2. increase the pvp skill gap: introduce a more difficult recoil, strictly limit team UI on all official servers (not including clan table, i like the idea of radius limit for reduced team info), remove the fog, improve proc map gen, limit server pop, increase building block radius around monuments, merge safe zones, remove attack heli (idgaf this shit sucks.)
thank you for coming to my ted talk, love u all <3
absolutely not, rust is making a fuck ton of money. high player counts, massively successful events with many of them generating incredibly amounts of money for charity
if we look at all the numbers across the board, the game is massively successful
afk players are running rampant tho ur not wrong about that at all lmaoooo
