This night, my wife and I went to Anglican Hospital Wusasa to visit a patient, oblivious to me, my side pocket had torn, and the moment I stepped out of the car, my iPhone 16 Pro max quietly slipped out without my notice. While we were in the hospital, I found myself telling my wife that if Allah ever bless me with sufficient wealth, I would gladly renovate the hospital free of charge, despite it being an Anglican institution. The reason was simple, I saw compassion that recognized neither tribe nor religion, patients were being treated with dignity and care, irrespective of their faith or background.
As we were leaving, I called Abubakar Dakingari
with my other Android phone and made a humble request, knowing his connections with organizations and charitable foundations, I pleaded with him that if he ever come across any international organization or charity interested in supporting healthcare institutions, he should kindly remember Wusasa Hospital. I told him how deeply impressed I was by the works they do.
At that very moment, I had no idea that my iPhone was already missing. It was only when I arrived home and instinctively reached for my pocket that I discovered the tear and realized the phone was gone.
Panic set in,I called the number repeatedly, but no one answered, with every unanswered call, my hope faded and pessimism covered me. On what was perhaps my final attempt, someone picked up.
A gentle voice came through the line, It was a young lady named Blessing, she calmly asked me to come back to Wusasa Hospital to retrieve my phone because she had found it on the ground and had kept it. Blessing is an Igbo girl from Anambra State and a nursing student at the Anglican Nursing College, Wusasa.
At a time when stories of dishonesty often travel faster than stories of integrity, hers was a quiet reminder that goodness still lives among us, that honesty still survives in the hearts of ordinary people, that honest people can be found across faiths, that in spite of lingering hunger and poverty, some people still fear God, and that sometimes, just when I badly worry about the state of Nigeria and its political actors , a stranger restored my faith….and that Allah will never disappoint one when his heart is pure.
Thank you Blessing and May God continue to bless you.
Note: My wife was the one that snapped this picture ☺️
