@mm9sql@ea4gpz@SP3RNZ@kikori1906@AMSAT@glasbrenner they kill everything 🤬no matter band or mode , as you say directional antennas can have so much gain its clearly not taken into account ,some folks maybe need to re read the books 😉
@RFconsultantUK life is to short with so many things to do !,especially if you have an active mind which we seem to have,in the radio and its experimental/constructual world .you really do not know what is around the corner, grab it whilst/if you can, money is not everything, you cant buy health
That's the 1.5m dish frame and its mast plus the replacement tele vhf mast finished just the mesh now and then decide on ant to use have a 23cm septum it seems heavy ! thinking of maybe a patch instead to lower wind stress and physical handling🤔comments greatfully appreciated
@g0lbk would "dynema"cord for stays off the top of the cranked support work ? no stretch/non metalic (not sure of their internal make up ),just thinking septum clamped between 2 nylon plates held together with 4 stainless m4 bolts 2 top/2 bottom of septum would keep metalwork to a min
@g0lbk thats what i thought about cranking the center FG rod off centre for the septum to save as much blockage as possible especially given the dish size ,but then wondered about the rigidity off a single rod 🤔
@g0lbk is your FG septum supprt centred or offset to align the septum ?, if i go septum which looks like i will i can knock up some FG supports to mount off the outer ring
@g0lbk thank you david 👌appreciate the input ,its the easier and faster option as i already have it and as you know its taken me long enough just to get this far 🫣
Thats the front plate ,back plate, ribs and fibreglass antenna support done just the outer band and mid band to fit and the ultralight dish frame is complete and ready for the mesh .jiuggling between 2 masts and the dish at the moment seems to be taking forever 🤨
@RFconsultantUK it was the connector costs that hit me ,their prices seems to have gone through the roof recently .its a pity we cant get folding dishes over here at a reasonable price ! they would have been ideal in my situation ,would have saved me alot of work 😞
@RFconsultantUK ive been looking a LOG myself this last few weeks and watched that video myself just yesterday eve ,be interesting to hear your findings findings "forgive the pun" especially on it balun with its added magnetic "soup" over a standard 9:1
@RFconsultantUK id love a big dish but conditions here both wind load and my physical ability stop that, common sense kicked in "SO" its an ultra light weight small dish that i can phsically use like temp set up , just putting it up and down for a couple of days at a time ,if ok ill build larger
Its been a long time getting here but at LAST ive managed to get a RX signal or 2 off the moon on 1296mhz ,still a very long way to go but at least now theres light at the end of the tunnel
@RFconsultantUK the yagis will survive the winds better for everyday and enable me to check the bands and see what activity is there then swich to dish if needed. not competetive in any way shape or form so big numbers are unneccessary ,more qrp driven (why i make life so hard is beyond me 🤔😆)
@RFconsultantUK not yet peter i was just pleased its heading in the right direction .the yagis are sort of a temporary measure for just dodging around whilst i finish the dish and to keep me motivated ! hopefully i will just put the dish up for comps "because of the brutal winds here " (cont )
