🚨🇧🇷 Marcelo:
🗣️ “If Harry Kane can win this year’s Ballon d’Or based on his individual trophies, then why wasn’t Raphinha given the award last year? 🤔
🗣️ “Raphinha had similar stats to Kane, but he also won the domestic treble and had a record-breaking Champions League campaign. Kane lacked both of those achievements, yet he still went on to win the Ballon d’Or. 🏆
🗣️ “This award has absolutely no consistency. If Kane deserved it this year, then Raphinha should have won it last year. 🔴🔵
🗣️ “And if Dembélé won last year based on trophies, then Lamine Yamal should have won it this year based on trophies. You cannot keep changing the criteria to suit different players.” 🎯🏆
🗣️ “I have been a referee for far too long not to recognise when a referee appears to be clearly favouring one side. In the El Clásico, the officiating looked heavily inclined towards Real Madrid, and the referee seemed to be under enormous pressure from RMTV to make decisions in Madrid’s favour. ⚖️😤
🗣️ “This is genuinely disgraceful for Spanish football. The fact that a single television channel funded by Real Madrid can seemingly put the entire refereeing community in Spain under pressure is a serious problem. La Liga cannot allow this situation to continue.” 🚨🇪🇸
🚨🎙️ Lamine Yamal on his altercation with Kylian Mbappé at the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
🎙️ Reporter: We noticed you and Mbappé exchanging words during the gala. What was that about?
🗣️ Lamine Yamal: Yes, honestly, I won’t pretend everything was fine between us, but we remained professional. During the ceremony, he looked at me and whispered something in my ear that I didn’t like.
🎙️ Reporter: What exactly did he say to you?
🗣️ Lamine Yamal: He told me, “El Clásico yesterday, Ballon d’Or today. No feelings. Nothing would hurt a Barça player more than that.” (laughs)
I looked at him with a smile because I knew exactly what he was trying to do. He wanted to get into my head, so I replied, “Do you really think a trophyless player like you deserves a seat here, let alone winning a Ballon d’Or?”
I told him to look around at Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Dembélé and the other players in that room. They had at least two trophies to show for their seasons, and I asked him what he had achieved that year to justify being here. I even told him that Real Madrid fans wouldn’t be proud of a season like his.
Honestly, I think that’s when he got really angry. He told me to shut up and said he knew what he would have done to me if we weren’t at the ceremony.
I just smiled at him. You’re the one who started the conversation, you’re the one who tried to provoke me, and now you’re getting upset because I answered you? (laughs) I don’t understand that. If you can dish it out, you should be able to take it too.
🚨 Xavi Espart on his explosive altercation with João Cancelo in training:
🗣️Reporter: Xavi, what happened between you and Cancelo in training?
🎙️Xavi Espart:
“We were discussing PSG's fourth goal, and I told him exactly what I thought. Fabián Ruiz was practically gifted a tap-in to make it 4–2, and I blamed Cancelo for failing to track the situation properly.
“I told him that if I had still been on the pitch, I would have defended that situation differently. He immediately took offence and started questioning who I thought I was to criticise him.
“I looked at him and said, ‘João, your experience is supposed to prevent these mistakes, not give you an excuse when they happen.’
“That made him even angrier.
‘You cannot spend the entire match enjoying the freedom of an attacking full-back and then forget that defending is also part of your job.’
“He started talking about my experience, and I told him this wasn't about experience or reputation. Fabián Ruiz didn't care how many trophies Cancelo had won. He saw the space and scored.
🗣️Reporter: Do you regret confronting him?
🎙️Xavi Espart:
“Absolutely not. I respect Cancelo, but respect doesn't mean silence. If a young player makes a mistake, everybody criticises him. Why should an experienced player be treated differently?
“I told him that if he wanted to prove me wrong, he should do it on the pitch instead of shouting at me in training.
“At Barcelona, nobody is bigger than the badge. Not me, not Cancelo, not anybody. If you make a mistake, own it. Don't attack the person brave enough to tell you the truth.’”
🚨 Raphinha on pushing Ferran Torres after the final whistle against PSG:
🗣️ “I wasn’t there to make friends with anyone. We didn’t even speak properly before he decided to leave Barcelona, so I don’t know why he would come back and expect me to act like everything is normal between us.
When he came over to us, he had a smirk on his face. Maybe he thought it was funny, maybe he thought he had moved to a better team. I don’t know, but I wasn’t in the mood for that.
Pedri can joke with him, Lamine can joke with him. That’s their business. But don’t expect me to do the same, especially after the game we just played.
I’m still angry about our performance. We have a lot to improve, and I’m not going to stand there smiling and joking around when I’m disappointed with what happened on the pitch.
People can interpret it however they want, but I’m a competitor. I don’t take these games lightly, and when I’m frustrated, I’m not going to pretend I’m happy just because someone expects me to.”
