250 years ago today, the first amphibious landing occurred.
At the outset of 1776, Continental Marines under the command of Captain Samuel Nicholas carried out the first amphibious landing in the history of the newly formed corps of Marines during the Battle of Nassau.
Leading approximately 200 #Marines and @USNavy #Sailors ashore, Nicholas seized key British positions and secured valuable cannons, munitions, and other military supplies.
The operation not only strengthened the Continental war effort but also demonstrated that the young nation possessed both the resolve and the capability to carry the fight for independence beyond its shores.

Throughout the exercise Marines completed a variety of safety and cold weather survival training. In addition, the Marines and Sailors also participated in an array of events consisting of helicopter support team operations, resupply hikes and convoys, as well as sUAS operations.
