. @SpeakerMenin is taking action on E-Bikes only after being exposed as a hypocrite. She declared the Central Park Carriages a public safety emergency while ignoring dozens of E-Bike fatalities and serious injuries. She has been shamed into taking action. Political opportunism is an ugly thing. @TwuSamuelsen
Stray voltage from underground cables almost certainly caused the carriage horse to bolt. Given this major development, it would be immensely unfair to ban an entire industry employing about 200 mostly immigrant workers because of faulty municipal infrastructure. @TwuSamuelsen
On our bike ride with @AOC, we discussed the proliferation of illegal e-motos and e-scooters, and what (if anything) can be done federally to regulate the industry.

All of the Transit Authority’s electronic bench repairs are done at the Central Electronics Shop also known as the Woodside shop as per an agreement in 1997 between Local 100 and the NYCTA.
The Woodside shop is home to about 230 of our Electronic Equipment Maintainers Level 2 and Revenue Equipment Maintainers Level 2 are responsible for repairing all of the electronic components found in the NYCTA’s Car Equipment fleet including HVAC systems, door control, public address and braking–– work that happens behind the scenes that makes commutes seamless and comfortable for passengers.
The Woodside shop is also where all of the Metro Card Vending Machine components were once serviced. After 2022, maintainers at CES began to service electronic components of the OMNY system.

Today in East Islip, Long Island, President John V. Chiarello joined the annual Bangladeshi American picnic for employees of New York City Transit, along with Stations VP Robert Kelley and Stations Division Chair Nicolette Browne.
In addition to food, fun and solidarity, there was an important message—President Chiarello addressed the ongoing contract negotiations, saying he would not settle for 2% raises and terms that diminished our healthcare and job security.
The fight continues!

No City Counsel, wow my mistake , he’s still a performative , sanctimonious hypocritical opportunistic politician , latching onto a moment of absolute tragedy to destroy 170 largely immigrant jobs . All while completely ignoring death and maiming in Manhattan by E-Bike because … well , you know why. And thanks for the advice but we will spend our money exposing these hypocrites and betrayers . Imagine , @TheDemocrats is now the party that destroys immigrant jobs , the American Dream and 68 small businesses all in one felt swoop. Like a smarmy Triple Crown. But I get it , you gotta defend .
In 2026 Manhattan has suffered four deaths from collisions involving E-Bikes, with another
169 people injured and maimed . Where’s hypocritical Brad Holyman’s detailed report on this public safety scourge ? Oh wait , Brad didn’t see any way to exploit a tragedy or any moment for political opportunism by issuing reports on E-Bike fatalities. In fact as a NYC Councilman and now Manhattan Borough President @bradhoylman has been absolutely silent on these deaths and injuries . This is just more performative political expediency from another same old tired shite career politician who is all sanctimony and no substance as he attacks 150 immigrant families struggling to survive in the midst of an unprecedented affordability crisis in NYC . @CentralLaborNYC@transportworker@TWULocal100
At the end of 2025 @transportworker union AGAIN asked @CentralParkNYC for hitching posts, @JimGennaro introduced Intro 937 including hitching posts 6/11/26 but @SpeakerMenin still hasn't scheduled the bill for a hearing. The city failed us all on preventable accidents.
“Int. 943 fails everyone. It sentences the horses to death, ignores the wishes of the public, disregards the livelihoods of hardworking immigrant families and seeks to dismantle a safe, highly regulated industry without any compelling justification. New Yorkers deserve leadership that addresses genuine problems – not legislation that creates new ones.”

.@TWULocal100 horse carriage drivers thank the @NYCCouncil members who are standing with them and refusing to sign onto an anti-worker bill that provides no guarantees of employment or compensation for having their livelihoods ripped away.
TWU International President John Samuelsen with a textbook indictment of a politically ambitious @NYCCouncil Speaker, @JulieMenin, who is moving to wipe out the jobs of an overwhelming immigrant workforce, rather than address any safety concerns by actually governing, thinking it will advance her career. Can @CMMercedesCD46 tell me why she sponsored Intro 943 after the Department of Consumer & Worker Protection couldn't answer any of her questions specifically on how workers or horses would be protected? @helloDCWP said they would figure that out after, if the bill passed?
