SFA Academy is proud to announce the appointment of Dino Cook as the new Head Coach of its national prep basketball program.
Cook brings to SFA a career defined by structure, service, and results. A United States Marine Corps disabled veteran, accomplished coach, published author, and American essayist, Cook has spent decades mentoring athletes with an unflinching commitment to growth—on the court and beyond it.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and has coached at every competitive level of high school and prep basketball. His experience includes head coaching positions with nationally recognized grassroots programs such as Team Herro (Nike EYBL) and Power 5 (Adidas 3SSB), along with his leadership as Head Varsity Coach at Kingdom Prep Lutheran High School. He also contributed as a national-level assistant at both DME Academy and Chicago Prep Sports Academy, helping develop athletes who would go on to succeed at the collegiate and international levels.
Cook is widely respected as a sharp and relentless recruiter—known for identifying and developing talent both domestically and internationally. His longstanding relationships with college coaches and decision-makers give his athletes real opportunities, not just exposure.
Off the court, Cook is also a respected American essayist and author. His Substack publication, Beyond the Fastbreak, has reached over a million readers, offering sharp cultural analysis and commentary on youth sports, leadership, and education. In May 2024, he published AAU Basketball Unlocked: A Comprehensive Guide for Parents & Athletes, now available on Amazon and iTunes.
Cook’s proudest personal accomplishment came in August 1992, when he ran for the United States Marine Corps running team up Mount Fuji from Gotemba City, Japan—a grueling ascent that shaped the endurance and mental resolve he now demands from his athletes. As a single father, he raised two children who were both high school salutatorians. His daughter, Natalya Alexandra Cook, holds an MBA and teaches at the collegiate level. His son, Dino Cook Jr., is a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, studying exercise physiology.
Cook’s coaching philosophy is grounded in discipline, structure, and the dignity of preparation—deeply inspired by the teachings and integrity of Coach Dick Bennett, whom he considers the greatest influence on his approach to leadership and player development.
At SFA Academy, Coach Cook will lead with purpose, demand excellence, and build men—not just players. His belief is clear: success is not stumbled into—it is earned daily through accountability, toughness, and commitment to what matters.
SFA Academy welcomes Coach Dino Cook to the program and looks forward to the leadership and vision he will bring to the next generation of student-athletes.
