In 1908, Russia arrived about twelve days late to the London Summer Olympics, a mishap linked to the Russian Empire’s ongoing use of the Julian calendar. While most of Europe had switched to the Gregorian calendar, Russia was still twelve days behind, causing its athletes to miss early events like shooting. They did, however, compete later in July, winning medals in wrestling and figure skating.

Despite the delayed start, Russia sent just six competitors across three sports and still finished twelfth overall, earning one gold and two silver medals.
