Two weeks after the election, Congresswoman-elect Bush is still receiving praise and congratulations! Many are excited to see the 117th Congress composed of more POC and progressive voices, despite the loss of Democratic seats in the House. #HIST3220
Yesterday, Cori Bush was falsely gendered and said to be from Baltimore instead of St. Louis by Sean Hannity and Karl Rove, respectively. She is using this as an opportunity to bring attention to her platform and her passage into Congress, with a good sense of humor. #HIST3220
Republicans are already worried about me and they haven’t even figured out my gender or my hometown?
Hey Sean. Hey Karl.
I’m Congresswoman-elect Cori Bush, from the Lou and I’m proud.
And if Cori Bush from Baltimore is trying to get into some good trouble, hmu sis!
As a likely addition to the “the Squad” that includes Rep. AOC and other progressive Congresswomen of color, Bush is bringing a new progressive front to Congress. With a Democrat in the White House, many are looking to protect the ACA and other healthcare measures #HIST3220
It’s impossible to overstate the impact that bold leaders like @CoriBush, @JamaalBowmanNY, and @Marie4Congress will have in Congress. By electing more progressive champions, we’re closer to seeing Medicare for All, climate action and fair wages in America.

In the wake of her victory, Cori is still receiving accolades. Here she thanks Pathways United for their congratulations (click on Cori’s tweet to see the full exchange) #HIST3220
Bush reminds us all here to take a moment and just breathe amidst the chaos, highlighting one of her primary platforms of ensuring free mental healthcare for all. #HIST3220
Nurse Cori here to remind you to pause for a second. The past 72 hours have been draining. Take a moment for self care. We're going to get through this together.
And when I get to Congress, I will fight to make mental healthcare free and accessible to all.
With 84% of the vote, Cori Bush has now become the first Black woman to represent the MO-01 congressional district and will be heading to DC in January. Congratulations to CONGRESSWOMAN BUSH 🍾
Cori Bush rose to prominence in the 2014 Ferguson protests and has continued to speak out against gun violence and police brutality. Her campaign centers around enacting change in her community unlike Clay, the incumbent she beat in the primaries. #HIST3220
Bush has just received the endorsement of @emilyslist, a non-profit that seeks to help Democratic, pro-choice women elected to office. Also among their sponsored candidates are Nicole Galloway, Theresa Greenfield, and Kamala Harris. #HIST3220
Reproductive justice is on the ballot. I promise you that I will continue fight for every person's right to abortion. I'm honored to have the endorsement of @emilyslist.
The confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett has sparked outrage as the 35 days between the nomination and the 2020 presidential election marked the shortest period of time between a nomination to the Supreme Court and an election in U.S. history #HIST3220
I mourn for our democracy. I mourn for the pain this confirmation causes and will cause so many. But we must channel our outrage at injustice and turn it into action. You have power. We have power. And in 8 days, we have the opportunity to show the world just how powerful we are.
Bush is fighting for the needs of the average American--the pentagon does not help people get off the street, or feed hungry children, or protect social security benefits. #HIST3220
These comments against our military are irresponsible and unacceptable — and should be denounced by every elected official.
@nicolergalloway and @CoriBush's vision for Missouri isn't a "New Way", it's a Wrong Way.
Cori has been officially endorsed by @StLouisAmerican, an African American oriented newspaper based in St. Louis, and the largest weekly newspaper in the entire state of MO. Another favorable event for Bush’s campaign. #HIST3220
I am beyond honored to have the endorsement of my hometown paper the @StLouisAmerican. As one of the leading and longest running Black newspapers in the nation, the American is a historic publication. I am grateful to have their support.
We will build a better St. Louis!
@baileyemartin Great question! Cori doesn’t have a specific policy that targets COVID, but rather she aggregates her frustrations over it with the ones she has about healthcare in general. And to that end she is a supporter of Medicare For All, a comprehensive expansion of all health coverage.
Black women voters showed the highest participation rate of any group in the 2008 an 2012 presidential elections. Black women are 8% of the US pop, but constitute only 4.3% of Congress. Nearly 60 Black women are running for congress this fall. https://t.co/3W1Bp8bbq9 #HIST3220
This is just the tip of the iceberg of running for office as a Black woman.
"Your hips are too wide"
"Your braids are unprofessional"
"You don't speak like a Congresswoman"
To all my Black women running for office, you are right just the way you are. PeriodT.
Bush continues to be outspoken in her often scathing reviews of US Congress in general. If elected, she will be sure to be very vocal within the House. #HIST3220
The bar has been set so low that we're now excited when our elected officials are actually representing us. But that should be the minimum.
They should be fighting for us.
Bush has now been endorsed by New York Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez through her organization Courage To Change, a PAC that seeks to back candidates who ignore the pressures of the establishment and big money interests. This should bring new attention to Cori’s race. #HIST3220
@AOC, it’s been a long road since we first met in 2017. I'm beyond honored to have your @CourageToChange endorsement. I'm looking forward to what we’re going to accomplish together in Congress!
Cori continues to emphasize the impact of COVID-19 on African American and other minority communities. ‘That is violence being committed against us.’ #HIST3220
Coronavirus has devastated Black and Brown communities more than any others. That is not an interesting fact, or a notable trend.
That is violence being committed against us.
In 2019, St. Louis had the third fastest growing foreign-born population among major metro areas in the United States. Bush’s platform on immigration has strong policies on protecting immigrants both in St. Louis and DC #HIST3220 https://t.co/B8lKIRQHkY
Bush is referring to a policy supported by Rosenstein and then-AG Jeff Sessions that directs DHS to “permissibly direct the separation of parents or legal guardians and minors held in immigration detention so that the parent or legal guardian can be prosecuted.” #HIST3220
Rod Rosenstein demanded that immigration officials separate parents from their children—no matter how young they were.
Including breastfeeding mothers from their infants.
This is a human rights violation and needs to be prosecuted as such from the top down.
