From our earliest days, Black history has always been American history – and Black folks have profoundly shaped our American culture through music, art, literature, sports, and beyond. One month a year is not sufficient to celebrate the power of the movements and the people who have fought for the rights we enjoy today. That’s something that we have to do each and every day, as we strive to live up to their example and make sure our children and grandchildren remember their stories.
Kennedy’s stance on Hitler shifted after the war turned against Germany, but not out of moral reckoning—more like damage control. By 1940, his pro-appeasement views had made him politically radioactive, and after the Blitz, he resigned as ambassador. FDR was done with him.
Was thinking about RFK Jr. and whether the ancestral stain of Joseph Kennedy lingers in his psyche. That thought hit while reading Churchill & Orwell—where FDR and Churchill bypassed Ambassador Joe Kennedy, whom FDR’s aide called a would-be fascist.
Joe Kennedy saw Hitler as a bulwark against communism and admired his economic policies. Even as the Nazis’ brutality became clear, Kennedy downplayed the threat, pushing appeasement and fearing war would ruin business. FDR saw through him—hence the end-run to Churchill.
Egg shortage chaos: hoarding, surcharges, and sky-high prices. The food industry is feeling the squeeze, and no one knows when the shell-shock will end. What an egg-citing time to be alive!
Here’s the deal, peep-le: Eggs are the new toilet paper. A severe bird flu outbreak in 2025 led to the culling of millions of chickens, slashing egg production and sending prices soaring. Grocery stores are limiting purchases, and some restaurants now charge extra per egg.
Waffle House slaps a 50-cent surcharge per egg, while high-protein dieters (including Ozempic users) scramble for alternatives. Price gouging fears rise as supply chain disruptions crack the market. This shortage isn’t over easy—it’s here to stay.
There have been many significant and impactful executive orders in U.S. history.
Lincoln freed the enslaved.
Truman integrated the military.
Nixon created the EPA.
Trump: “I demand a return to plastic straws because the paper ones get soggy in my Diet Coke.”
@Tired_Nonsense_ @MarkHamill Very true. We have to keep reminding his followers of the content of his character. In his own words. Ultimately, he’s his own worst enemy.
@MarkHamill Oh, Mark—“done” just doesn’t do the man justice when there are so many nicknames to choose from. Mango Mussolini. Benedict Donald. Genghis Don. The Ayatollah Complaini. Darth Tax Evader. Trumpelthinskin. The MAGA-Lorian. Der Gropenführer. That last one is my favorite.
Life gave me a sublime moment @criminalbaker this morning when the barista played Dooley Wilson’s iconic song from #Casablanca, giving me the golden opportunity to growl out the words, “Sam, I thought I told you never to play that song!” We laughed loud and long and I was happy.
I read that the weight of all information produced by the Internet is 0.2 millionths of an ounce.
If that’s true, we can imagine there’s a distinct odor wafting from the corners the Internet where misinformation and lies congregate.
It’s the unmistakable smell of bullsh*t.
@megynkelly After which, they probably used those tampons as pretend swords, causing a bloody ruckus, or simply general mischief typical of nine-year-old boys.
