If this actually happens, I’ll be absolutely furious with the board. Letting Enzo Fernández go to Manchester City at this stage of the window would be a huge mistake, regardless of whether the fee is €120m or €140m.

Chelsea need to start acting like a big club for once when situations like this come up. We cannot keep allowing bigger clubs to come in late, put pressure on us and dictate the terms because they know we suddenly have to replace a key player. Look at Atlético Madrid when Barcelona came for Julián Álvarez — they made their position clear and stood their ground. That’s what I want to see from Chelsea.

And this is what frustrates me the most: you gave City a deadline to meet your demands so you could have enough time to find a proper replacement. They didn’t meet it, you said the deal was over, and now we’re still negotiating the exact same deal you said was dead. How does that make sense?

We wanted Xhaka and Sunderland, a much smaller club, stood their ground and made it clear their player wasn’t leaving. They even threatened to report us to the football authorities. Why can’t Chelsea show the same backbone?

If City genuinely want Enzo, make them pay an absolutely ridiculous price. Don’t negotiate from a position of weakness and don’t think €140m automatically makes this good business.

Because what happens next? We have to replace him with the window almost closed. Every club will know Chelsea have just received €140m and desperately need a midfielder. They’ll demand crazy money from us.

And realistically, who are we getting now that is actually close to Enzo’s quality and experience? Wharton? Scott? Someone else? We could easily spend €100m+ on a replacement who still needs time to settle.

If Enzo leaves, we don’t just lose a midfielder. We lose quality, experience and another important piece of the squad.

I really hope this is nonsense, because if we let City take Enzo now, I’ll be seriously angry with this board.
